    Beautiful fountain with a legend
This beautiful fountain is almost 20 metres high and is located in the Hauptmarkt (Main Square). It’was created about 1385-96. It has a legend: if you spin the golden ring three times your wish will come true. Let’s see!

    Go on a Sunday
This fountain can be viewed and enjoyed any time but go on a Sunday when there is a massive Beer Garden set up around it. Beers, Brats, Buns, and Beer Bellies. I’ve found my Tribe! ; )

Make a Wish for your Future
It is easy to see why this is called "beautiful fountain". Designed in the 1380s by Heinrich Beheim, a stonemason, it was intended to top the Frauenkirche. When completed the townspeople decided it was too glorious to be so far removed and it was transformed into a fountain. It stands at an impressive 19 meters high and is bedecked in gold. It contains a seamless copper ring on the north side of the fence that has been rubbed to a golden hue from people's touch as they turn it full circle and make their wishes for the future.

We came by just after Christmas so they were packing the market away in the hauptmarkt. I recognised the Church of Our Lady from a picture at the information center and remembered about this monument. It was quite an interesting monument but there were stands and a gate in some areas so I wasn't able to get up close to give it a proper look. It also didn't help that we were in a rush so it was a quick look before heading off. From what I could see it was really big and the golden motifs were really eye catching. It was a bit hard to see since the sun was behind it and I couldn't really walk around to get a better view.

We stopped to admire this structure for a few minutes as part of a walking tour and if we didn't know it was supposed to be a fountain I never would have guessed. It looks like an extremely ornate church steeple was taken off of some cathedral and placed on the ground at the edge of a market square. The "Beautiful Fountain" was of course not running as this was January 1st. I am a bit uncertain about when this fountain was built. The Nurnberg website says the fountain was built in the 14th century but that this is an over a hundred year old copy, so I'm understanding that this is "merely" a little over a hundred years old.

As a piece of WWII trivia, our tour guide said that Adolf Hitler would stand on his car in front of the fountain to pontificate, apparently.

This beautiful fountain is located on the Nuremberg Hauptmarkt. It originally dates back to the 14th Century but is in fact a newer replica. However, it is still a beautiful fountain, about 20 meters high and with several sculptured figures on the structure.

Nuremberg seems to be awash with appealing legends, two of which attach to this lovely fountain. The first is to do with the two rings (one black and one gold) which if rotated three times will ensure your return -this legend is based on a tried and trusted model (blacksmith, apprentice, daughter etc) which you might want to check out. The other was much more appealing to me, speaking as it does of humans' propensity to make mistakes but then to move on. This tale is that the beautiful timber structure you see was made to be the spire of the church on the other side of the square but that once it was completed the locals couldn't think of a way of hoisting it up there and accordingly turned it into a fountain. Whether true or not this is a lovely piece of art, particurarly when the sun shines on it, and well deserves it's name of 'the beautiful fountain'.

The Beautiful Fountain, located in a corner of the large Market Square, is one of the best known and representative monuments of the city of Nuremberg. The original fountain was built in the 14th century and is today preserved inside the National Museum, while the one we can admire in the square is a faithful replica, created in the early 20th century. The work has the shape of a Gothic spire almost 20 meters high and is decorated with numerous brightly colored statues. The wrought iron fence that encloses and protects the fountain is also valuable.

Der Schoene Brunnen is a wonderfully beautiful fountain in the middle of Market Square with an equally stunning iron fence surrounding it. Urban legend has it that if you can turn the ring in the fence three times, good luck will come your way for an entire year. Regardless of legend, the fence and fountain are stunning and definitely worth a visit if in Nuremberg.

It is one of the top attractions in Nuremberg and is a must-see on your first visit to Nuremberg. The ring forged into the lattice without a visible seam deserves special attention. It is said that if someone turns it completely once, the wish they think while turning the ring but do not say it will come true.

This is called the Beautiful Fountain or Der Schöner Brunnen but it really isn't a fountain it is a large monument that is brightly decorated with carvings. The only problem is that there is fencing around it and people congregate on the steps so the photo opportunities are few and far between unless you are there early before the crowds. It is still worth seeing.
