A superb place to take in the mesmerizing sights of the beautiful old town of Munich, with many spots for people watching / selfies / clicks.

A large square in Altstadt Munich, near Theatine Church and Hofgarten. The battle of the Beer Hall Putsch happened here. Other than the historical significance, I don't think there is anything remarkable here but if you are visiting the Theatine Church and Hofgarten, you can just take a walk.

This square is so centrally located that if you are a tourist, you are bound to reach here. Other famous landmarks like Theatine Church, Feldherrnhalle and Residenz are all nearby.
Worth visiting...

A place of some historical interest, as it was here that the Beer Hall Putsch ended. There are some beautiful buildings around, like the Theatine church and the Feldherrnhalle. Not a place I'd necessarily have gone out of my way to see, but interesting nevertheless.

The first thing you notice here is that the place has been created to impress others. Many grand buildings surround this square. Part of the Residenz, one of Europe's largest city palaces faces the square as does the impressive Feldernhalle, a copy of the Loggia del Lanzi in Florence. Beautiful arcades lead into the king's old garden, the Hofgarten, now a public park. The most beautiful building, however, is the Theatinerkirche, a distinctive bright yellow church in Italian late baroque. It is clear that the king had a deep affection for Italy but the place bears no resemblance to an intimate Italian piazza. It's simply too big.

This large square is located in the north of Munich Old Town. It is named for the former concert hall, the Odeon, on its northwestern side.

The square is the site of several of the city's most emblematic buildings or parks: Feldherrnhalle, Theatinerkirche, Munich Residenz, and Hofgarten.

Very historic. The city of Munich seemed to go out of its way to hide the Nazi past when I was there, they were playing up silly things like rubbing the shield of one of the lions there, hiding all indications for the historic significance of the site. There were concession stands blocking much (for the beach volley ball champion ships). A little bit of homework and you will find what is the real significance, where the police defeated the beer hall putsch. Well worth the visit. Could not find the small plaque memorializing the police killed by the Nazis.

A nice attractive square close to the English gardens in Munich and it’s a short walk from Marienplatz. It’s a photogenic spot. Of recent historical significance, it’s close to the area where Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch had failed. The nearby area are great for restaurants but don’t go out of your way though

This is a very pleasant square that is just down from the Residence, make sure you go in the church and the gardens through the gate.
