    Color and bold strokes
Where better to learn about and appreciate Der Blaue Reiter movement started by Kandinsky and Marc than in Munich? I had not known much before entering but recognized many of the paintings. It is housed in a Tuscan inspired villa of the painter Lenbach. The cafe is excellent. The audio guide is recommended.

    Female artists well-represented!
We enjoyed our visit here in December 2023. It was awesome to see a number of art pieces by female artists! This is so rare in most galleries. We were introduced to the work of a number of artists we didn’t know, and the information panels were fantastic at contextualising the pieces displayed in each room/area. For any fellow Kandinsky fans, note that the art here is different to his more well-known pieces.

    Fantastic Turner exhibition
We went to see the Turner exhibition while visiting Munich, and really enjoyed it. The exhibition was very thoughtfully curated and we both learnt lots about Turner and his art which gave us a new appreciation. Speaking of appreciation, the cloakroom was also free which was very welcome after a day of trying to find euros to pay locker fees!

    Solid stuff
Booked online as a student, and I only paid 5 EUR. Some pieces have elaborate explanations while others merely have a title, date and artist name. All information was given in German and English. The only small complaint I have is the fact that during the day, the sunlight from some doors and windows may reflect off some pieces, thereby giving you a distorted look. Still worth a visit, especially if you can go during off-peak hours and have the luxury of exploring rooms peacefully

    Nice Return Visit
On a recent trip to the Bavarian capital, I made it a point to visit Lenbachhaus, a building housing the Städtische Galerie (Municipal Gallery); I had previously visited this museum a number of years ago upon the recommendation of a person employed by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Photographs are permitted in this museum. I found this visit as enjoyable as the first time I experienced this museum.

    Great museum. Must see
This is a marvelous museum that is small enough to enjoy within an hour. Walking distance to many of the other museums and sites . Perfect example of art from 1850-1940s. Blue Rider art movement is big here.

Why a painting is no more with the title given since a century just because some idiots have decided that Indian for American native is no more acceptable. That the title of the painting if the woke movement is such that it is not possible to have an explanation I sad with that, tomorrow going that way you will have not to show most of the paintings.

The art work is very modern - not to everyone's taste. the roms in his house are interested but there aren't many open. I wouldn't put this on you must see list but if you have the Munich card it is free entry and perhaps worth 30 minutes of your time

We were disappointed by the art collection in the museum. While the old building is beautiful to see, the art was quite limited.
