- Merlin M2 contributionsAbsolutely beautiful parkWhat a huge and beautiful park. Very well maintained. Felt very safe as we walked at dusk into dark. Park was full of life, people playing volleyball, soccer, picnicking and even surfing. Best part was after about 2 miles we heard traditional German music coming from up ahead. As we came through a clearing we were pleasantly surprised by a huge beer garden complete with band. Talk about perfect timing.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 October 2023
- Berke AyrancıoğluGraz, Austria641 contributionsGreat city park in MunichA very big park in Munich. You should go there at least for a walk near the lake, a very beautiful park. You can bring your drinks/food there or you can enjoy one of the beer houses. You can go to Japanese teahouse, chinese tower and monopteros. Also the famous surf location, eisbachbelle, is in the Englischer Garten.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 January 2024
- DesertRose538 contributionsGreat break in the cityThe garden is a lovely break in the hustle and bustle of the city. We were lucky enough to be there when the weather was great and kicking back in the sun made a nice change from site seeing. There was a man tanning nude however which came as quite a surprise so keep that in mind if you are traveling with children.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2024
- KnewGuessedToronto, Canada164 contributionsHuge urban parkI am from Toronto and I would give my left (leg) for our city to have a place like this. Huge park, free and centrally located with fields, gardens, paths, lookouts, lakes, rivers, beer gardens. We only saw the south half and even that was huge. Plenty of space at the Chinesischer Turm. There are also other beer gardens like the Seehaus a bit further, which is nice because it overlooks the lake.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024

Try to bring a blanket or towel to sit on as sitting in the grass is very popular. bathrooms for 1 euro near one of the entrances in the back of a restaurant. It's cool to watch the surfers too!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 May 2024

- 907blakedTampa, Florida1,455 contributionsBeautiful city garden in Munich similar to Central ParkWe enjoyed spending some time walking through the English Garden. We parked in the garage at the Hilton Munchen Park, which I highly recommend, and then walked through the park, seeing the Chinese Tower, Greek Temple Monopteros, and Japanese Teagarden, not to mention lots of people playing volleyball and frisbee and otherwise soaking up the sun. We could have spent even more time here, as it is a lovely activity on a pleasant day.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 July 2024

The surfers drew a great crowd and we enjoyed sitting on the edge of the river with our feet in. Highly recommendVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 July 2024
- DeeCatalina Foothills, Arizona34 contributionsA beautiful afternoon spent at the gardens.I visited with 3 teenaged daughters and we loved every minute. Wear comfortable shoes and keep in mind the walk is somewhat uneven and with cobblestone paths, if traveling with someone that may be slightly more at risk of falls. Although still so much to enjoy on safer routes. The summer was a little warm water is recommended. Not a lot of vendors or kiosks of any kind that Americans are used to seeing (thankful they don’t have them here as it would spoil the experience) Architectural lovers will be so very pleased! The buildings and structures are phenomenal. Botanists and master gardeners goes without saying will be equally as thrilled. Plenty of space to run for the little ones, space on the ground to picnic with plenty of shade! YES dogs are welcome! We saw both on and off leash. No restrictions on bringing in food - which I recommend as the cafe was delicious however pricey and the menu was not child friendly. A beautiful place and I recommend it highly to all!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 July 2024

Fantastic huge park in the city we had a great time lounge, splashing in the river and people watching (not too closely as there are people sunbathing naked - you have been warned). We also hired some Lime electric scootres and had a great time whizzing about - responsibly. Then we had a 'leisurely' pedalo on the lake - bookable by the half hour.

The English Garden is in the heart of Munich. I was there during summer for the fifth time and it is a perfect place where you can spend the hot summer in a big city. You can borrow a bike and discover the huge park by bike. Many tourists visit the English garden because of the artificial wave, where surfers can have an amazing experience! I stood close to the wave for a few minutes, and it makes so much fun only watching how the young people surf.
But the real reason for our visit was the swimming in the “Eisbach”. Summer in Munich can get very hot, so it is helpful if you can jump in cold water. But attention: the water is really cold! Most of the people jump in the stream and drift along until they reach the Tivoli-Bridge. There you can take the tram and drive back to your place and swim again. If you underestimate the drift, it can be very dangerous. I was surprised how big the park is but this is nowadays actually very good because you can keep enough distance from each other when you go for a walk with a friend during the Covid19-Pandemic.
I would be glad if we can travel as soon as possible, so I can visit the park this summer.
It is the best place for enjoying the summer, eating ice cream and meeting friends in the evening! A must-see in Munich.

The park is much bigger than I expeced, and you cannot drive the e-scooters inside, so either prepare for a lot of walking, or rent a bike.
There are many different areas inside, from rivers to dense forests, open plains, restaurants, beer gardens, we even seen snakes.
Perfect place to go on a nice summers' day.

The English Garden is close to the Munich city center. The English Garden in Munich is not just a beautiful place to relax. People from the city and from other countries come together in the English Garden. It offers various activities. Since it is located on the Isar, you can go swimming, for example. But you can also watch the surfers. If you are looking for a little more peaceful and quiet place, you can also relax on one of the many meadows and read a book. The English garden also offers a beer garden by the Chinese tower. Here you can drink the Bavarian brew or eat something. Precisely because the park is in the immediate vicinity of the city and can be reached with a few subway stations, you can find a great break from the hustle and bustle of the big city here. However, the park is correspondingly full on warmer days. But still he is well-groomed. The English garden is a “must have” when visiting Munich.

I mean not alot to say, it's a beautiful garden in the city of Munich, if the sun is shinning then it's great and if it's snowing it's beautiful. I don't recommend it during rain unless that's your thing.
You can surf in the man made wave city side or swim in the rivers that run through it and there are multiple food and drink establishments throughout. My favourite being Seehaus.

This is a great place to visit after you have had your fill of tours. Rent a bike to make the most of all that the park has to offer. You can find a lake with beautiful outdoor restaurants or quaint little beer gardens within the park. Look for the mini Hofbrauhaus Beer garden and grab a quick lunch and beer while visiting with the local that like to stop here as well. This is a great escape for some relaxation.

Large park with extensive grounds well worth a visit to get away from the hustle and bustle of Munich. Easy to get to from Munich centre. It is walkable if your fit but we took tram 16 to Tivolistrasse to get to a midway point for a good walk around Kleinhesseloher See and back to the beer garden for lunch. It was busy at the beer garden but easy enough to get served. You enter a central area through a turnstile and pick whatever food you like ( there is a lot of choice) and pick up your beer from the bar hatch. You proceed to pay at a kiosk for food a drinks. Glasses have a 1 euro deposit which is reclaimed at a separate hatch once you’ve finished. There is a great atmosphere here and worth the stop.

This is such a wonderful space and since we were during the lovely winter to get to the Christmas Markets (that were sadly cancelled just before we arrived) please take our review with a grain of salt. Any open space in a large city is just a blessing given the absolute mayhem that can occur. It was very nice to walk around and stretch our legs. Wonderful seeing kids running around and dogs chasing balls. No doubt I would have given this 5 stars if this had been the summer when everything would have been green and blooming. Enjoy.

The English Garden is a real gem in the city of Munich. It is very large, and we have just walked in the third that is nearest the city centre. There are an enormous number of tall, beautiful trees and the paths are creating a large web. You can probably walk for hours.
One distinctive feature is the very lively stream that flows throughout the park. This is used by many surfers that attract large crowds of spectators. The surfers are not just young men since a good proportion are females. In the upper part of the first third of the park there are a large area with different food stands and a lot of common sitting places and a large tower with a brass orchestra. All in all, I can recommend this park.

Walking through this park is an absolute delight. In nice weather (we had nice weather in February), it's packed full of people running, biking, eating, drinking and just generally lounging. Plus they have surfing in the river. One of the highlights of our time in Munich.

Hi
Can anyone tell me if I can rent a bike in this park or near this park ? Not renting a horse-drawn tour wagon service.
If there is a bike renting spot, how much is it?
Thank you

What is the price to hire a bike at the Munich English garden.
Written 18 July 2019
We did a guided tour of Munich through Mike's Bikes last week. I noticed another place to rent bikes right in the Englischer Garten - I think it was MUCbike (they have a website). It says that they rent E Bikes for 12 Euros the first hour, then 4 Euros per additional hour. The bikes looked like they were in good condition (unlike Mike's...).

Hello, their website isn’t clear but I found this on another website. “Restaurant Hours: Daily 11am-11:30pm. Beer Garden Hours: Daily in good weather from 11am-11:30pm; opens at 10am on weekends.” My guess is daylight hours or at least 0900 for opening.

We will be visiting for the first time this summer - what is the best way to get to the garden using public transport? A quick search on Google gives us an idea but then says there's a 60+ min walk - we have a wheelchair user and a round trip of 2 hours (not including train/tube time etc) will be two much for him.. does anyone have any tips or should we skip the English Garden? Thanks in advance

I advise you to use the MVV-app. It's a journey planner for public transport. We have used it during a week stay in München last april. It worked very well.
