    Great people watching
Great for people watching, especially around time of dancing figurines. There are a lot of people in this square most of the time. That night it was crowded too, and not a bad place to watch people. Tremendous historical value if you really want to take the time to search it out.

Top tip! Visit at 11, midday or 5pm!
Top tip! Visit at 11, midday or 5pm! The famous clock only does it's 6 minute show at these times, which most folks seem to find out the hard way! Also for a small price you can also climb the tower of St Peter, which is opposite and watch the show from the top of there, though its about 14 floors up and a bit of a trek and can get quite busy up there. We got a front row seat at the pub in the square and watches it all with a beer! Definitely a must see if visiting Munich!

    Go early!
Beautiful area in Munich. We had no way to get to see the glockenspiel, so we opted to go down early and just walk around. It was not very busy around 8, which was nice. By the time we left at 9:00, it was already getting busy. Although nothing was open, it was nice to walk around without the crowds.

    Heart of Activity
The sights, sounds, foods, and central location make this a must see. With easy train access from around the area, you can easily get there. So many historical churches and buildings all within walking distance of Marienplatz make this area a must see.

    Well worth the visit!
Took the metro here from the airport during a long layover. Metro was easy to navigate and we were able to use a group ticket for all 5 of us. So much fun to just walk around in this area. But be careful as the cobblestones are uneven in several areas.

Beautiful square - clocktower a must see!
Beautiful square, with watching the figures of the clock dance around is a must. Look out for the injured knight! Timings change for the movements, so check beforehand - summer was noon, 5pm and 6pm from memory. Many lovely churches to visit and stunning buildings to admire- just keep looking up to admire it all!

You're going to end up here anyway, so you might as well enjoy
Centrally located in downtown Munich, this square is a wonderful pedestrian-only spot to take in the cultural landscape of this city. The town hall is brilliantly designed, although not as old as you would think by looking at the ornament. The buildings that dot the square offer lots of tourist friendly amenities, but you would do better price-wise to step away from the center of town to patronize cafes or souvenir stands that are a bit more remote but easier on your wallet.

    Must to go
We were in Munich two days. We stayed a hotel nearby the main train station. So it is walking distance to the old town. And this place is in side the old town, and it is a must to go. The architecture is amazing. All the details on the façade. We even google the story behind the creations, and it is fascinating to read the stories and seeing the old architecture at the same time. We highly recommend this.

    The heart of Munich
Be sure to go at 5:00 to see the clock tower come alive. Amazing to see. This is a beautiful square surrounded by great shops and restaurants. There is a subway station right in the square so an easy place to get to.

One of the best squares that we have seen. Lots of popular sights surrounding it and it's fun to just people watch. It's a lot quieter in the mornings and more bustling later in the day.

Marienplatz is one of our go to places to visit. We enjoy the local food markets near the square. Easy commute from Main Train Station on U-line. Of course anywhere you go in Germany, you will enjoy.

Central square area of Munich. Worth seeing the architecture and seeing the clock tower on the hour. Be mindful of belongings though when standing or walking through the square.

Marienplatz is directly in front of Neues Rathaus and was laid out in the 12th Century. It originally served as the market square. At the center of Marienplatz stands a column topped with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary. This column was erected in 1638 to celebrate the end of the Swedish occupation during the Thirty Years' War. Marienplatz is usually bustling with activity.

Make sure to schedule your visit around the clock dance. I saw it over 20 years ago and am happy to see it was still working. The craftsmanship on the clock is incredible. It looks like they are really dancing.
