We purchased the 12 Euro ticket to visit three museums - Pinakothek de Moderme (Modern), Museum Brandhorst (Contemporary), and the Alte Pinakothek (Classical). By far, this was our least favorite with not much to see. Unless you are a Cy Twombley fan, you won’t find much to look at. Honestly, in and out in 30 minutes. Skip this one for the Alte Pinakothek.

This museum epitomises everything I hate about modern art. Most of it is pretentious rubbish. The exhibit of Cy Twombly is the worst example of why. Most of it is nothing more than child-like scrawls with his interpretation of the Battle of Lepanto being case in point.

If you want to see what real art looks like, the Alte Pinakothek is only five minutes walk away. It's a good thing I visited on a Sunday where the entrance fee is only €1. The Andy Warhal exhibition was "okay", otherwise I'd have felt cheated even at €1. Just about the only thing I liked about the museum is the building itself.

Probably okay if you like modern art.

WARNING: DO NOT GO IF YOU WANT TO SEE WHAT IS PROMISED ON THEIR WEBSITE (KOONS, HURST, WARHOL, ETC.)
I read the reviews of the other visitors and I can imagine how someone’s personal taste might not agree with the art that’s shown, but that’s not the biggest problem in this museum.
On its website the museum advertises the more than 100 exhibits holding Andy Warhol collection being the biggest in Europe.
Unfortunately you don’t get to see this collection, as you don’t see the works by Hurst, Koons, Chamberlain etc...
Instead of warning you that nothing of their collection is on display, you get told that you’re not the first to complain and that you should come back in December next year. One of the exhibitions will change by then.

As you get inside in the first two rooms you expect a gorgeous collection but there it stops as other rooms are way less interesting. Very nice the Cy towmblin collection in the first floor. The basement was under renovation.

Worth a trip just to look at the architectural gem that is the building - right in the heart of Munich Museum land, right next door to the International Design Museum. This is a smart and impressive venue to visit - enjoy the experience

The newest addition to the Pinakothek area, Museum Brandhorst opened in 2009, with some of the biggest names in modern art exhibited inside. Expect lots of Andy Warhol and Cy Twombly (his Lepanto series is one of the corner stones in the collection), with other work from artists such as Sigmar Polke, Damien Hirst and Kurt Schwitters.

Museum Brandhorst is backed by large private endowments, which gives the museum possibilities to go after some of the biggest names and art pieces in the world. I missed a little bit of younger, less known talent and humor, but with the ambitions of this place, you're likely to see great things here in the years to come.

And if you're on a budget yourself, Sunday admissions are only 1 euro.

This is a great place in the centr area of all good museums.
The exhibition is well selected. The service is ok. We all know and understand that because of the virus 🦠 we have to be patient!
All good!

Good collection of contemporary art. Fantastic exhibition of Cy Twombly works beautifully hung. Worth a visit for these alone and free if you buy the all in Pinakotheke ticket.

This museum is super small and the only thing worth seeing is Warhol but the rest didn't take long to see. Good to kill time if you have nothing else to do.

This museum is very clean and well designed with many paintings and sculptures, and has the most Andy Warhol art of any other museum in Europe. It’s a very large collection of artwork, and I would recommend it to others who want to see many different forms of modern art.
