Being shuttled tthrough the maze of underground tunnels, sliding down the miners' slides and gliding across a lake of brine were all part of the experience of learning more about the extraction of salt from the mountains in this area. The tour guide conducts the tour in German but there is an English audio guide. One criticism is that it... More

I've visited Berchtesgaden twice over the last two years and visited the salt mine on both visits. Very unique experience traveling down a mining cart deep into the mountain. They've done an excellent job of putting together a fun and informative presentation that explains the history and process of the mine but is also beautiful. This is a must see... More

Favorite part of our trip for the kids. They really enjoyed riding the trail into the salt mine, going down the slide to the lower levels, and riding the boat across the mirror lake. Also, very informational. Highly recommend this tour if you'll be in the area. It is very close to Salzburg, which is where we stayed. I recommend... More

we were taken to the mine by panoramic tours the driver/guide was excellent and really looked after us the enjoyment of the mine visit was ruined by a coach of extremely loud, rude, inconsiderate men from I think Egypt as one of the other members of our party recognised the language. They barged past everyone did not listen to the... More

Booked on to the 2pm tour....arrived 10mins early as they request....you enter and get given protective overalls to put over your clothing....then we ended up waiting another 35 minutes to get on to the actual tour. Once on the tour it is a bit of fun riding on the train...sliding down a couple of slides was fun.....onto a boat across... More

Did the tour with Panorama Tours from Salzburg. It was a very enjoyable morning. We had an hour at Berchesgarten for morning coffee and then onto the Salt Mines. The Salt mine tour, starts with a nice train trip into the heart of the mine, and then our tour with English speaking narratives explains how the mine works. Included is... More

We took this tour out of Salzburg and saw some beautiful mountain country on the way. The salt mine tour was fun and interesting. Highly recommend for the whole family. You cannot take pictures inside but they do take you picture on the train and going down the wooden slides (extra fee). Don't forget to view your pictures when you... More

I keep telling myself I'm too old for this stuff. All the others had a family or group to hold onto. I went solo, sliding down a tunnel deep into darkness, said a quick prayer and loved it. Twice. Magical boat ride made me think maybe I was traveling between earth/heaven/hell. Great tour.
