A Gothic Revival church built in the 1860-1870s on the side of the Feuersee (Fire Lake). It was nearly destroyed during WW II, and reconstructed after the war in a mix of Gothic and Modernist style.
At the time of my visit it was generally closed due to restructuring works - I could find it open one day, due to a wedding being celebrated there.
The best part of the church is the view with the lake and the park around it, an oasis of peace in the city.

The Johanneskirche was built from 1864 to 1876 in the neo-Gothic style. The church with the choir is striking on a peninsula in the lake of fire.
A great sight, already from the outside. No matter whether during the day or at night when the church is illuminated. Unfortunately, there are more markets on the peninsula, so sometimes a picture is difficult. In addition, the church is often closed so that it can only be viewed from the outside.
You may better look for the open times.

After the war was destroyed in the Second World War, the church was externally rebuilt except for the tower helmet. The church tower was 20 meters higher before it was destroyed in the Second World War. The "Church without a top" is considered a memorial against war. And it is definitely worth a visit when you are in Stuttgart.

The Johanneskirche is beautiful. There are lots of benches and steps to sit on while admiring the church. The Feuersee is home to a variety of wildlife to include turtles, fish, and swans.

Wonderful piece of architecture, this lake side cathedral. Looks beautiful when illuminated. Was a great place to linger around as a photographer, got some nice images of the illuminated cathedral against an evening sky.

The church's exterior is stunning, especially in the dusk and at night. It was significantly damaged in the war, but stands to this day proudly over the Feuersee.

It is simply gorgeous. Standing proudly literally in the Fire lake, it is a wonderful piece of architecture. I've seen it in all seasons and can honestly say that it's magnificent regardless. You must definitely see it at least once while in Stuttgart - it is within a walking distance from the center and near other sightseeing places.
