The "Altstadt" station is next to the Kornmarkt multistory car park in Heidelberg Old Town, so what can be more convenient for the tourist visiting Heidelberg. A simple "Bergbahn" ticket entitles you to go to the intermediate stop "Schloss", where you can visit Heidelberg Castle, and the final stop "Molkenkur. To get to the highest station "Koningsstuhl" you have to... More

Went there as two dads with fout kids and just had a fun time! For the kids it was nice to go up the mountain in a small cart and for the adults the view was pretty impressive! Not cheap, but OK!

This presented as an easier alternative than walking up the hill to the castle, and we were disappointed not to have heard about the other stop higher up otherwise we might have made time to see it - and that's why I write this review so prospective travellers might see this as another Heidelberg highlight to include in their itinerary.... Heidelberg is a top place for tourism with visitors from all over the world flocking to see the semi ruined renaissance castle; the funicular train is just the icing on the cake with a both ultra modern version for the lower journey and retro version with lovely gears, relays and pulleys for the upper part of the journey. The staff... More

For 12 Euros (make sure you get the right ticket!) you can get a return ticket by two funicular railcars up to the summit. I asked where the King's Chair was and it is apparently the view! The only downside is that the queues can be long. There is also a dilapidated inn at the top. However, if you pick... More

This is by far and away the easiest way to see the Castle, but when we bought our tickets we weren't told that the Bergbahn also stops at a higher level for a higher vista point, or, for another €7 we cold have ridden the "Historic" train to the very top. Unfortunately, the old train only runs until 5pm so... More

Our primary destination was the Schloss. As we've enjoyed the walk along the Philosophenweg the day before, we decided to take the tram to save the energy for the Castel visit. Note, that the standard combi ticket for the funicular and castle visit if 7€ doesn't include the Bergbahn usage up to the Königsstuhl. As I was curious about that... More

Easy ascension/descension up to the Königsstuhl with a nice view. Sportive people can also take the Himmelsleiter - stairs starting a little bit up from the castle entrance.

It's currently under renovation work so isn't running at the present moment. Someone told me it would be up and running again the end of March 2017. However there is a bus that runs during the day about every 5 mins to take you up to the castle!

We were lucky to come on a clear, sunny Saturday. Our whole family enjoyed each section of the bergbahn, and we decided to stay for lunch at the summit. Lines weren't long at all, and the trip can be done relatively quickly. I only wish we had more time to explore each level but the kids get bored quickly... Fantastic... More
