It is worthy to visit the Castle and go all the way up to the hill. It has many interesting things, amazing views, unique spots around the castle and you can sit in one of the gardens inside and make a peaceful picnic. I really...More

We spent all afternoon hiking up to and around the castle. It has many gorgeous vantage points and overlooks towards the city and Neckar river. Be sure and take a look at the "small" and "large" wine barrels. You can also take the funicular up...More

Heidelberg castle is situated up on the hill overlooking the old town. The castle grounds are extensive and include a courtyard, gardens and a wine cellar housing huge wine vats which are very impressive to look at. There is also a pharmaceutical museum onsite which...More

This castle hosts the world's largest wine barrel, a sort of pharmacy museum, well maintained gardens and a great view of the city. If you are passing by, it is worth checking it up.

Must see but you need the our. Without the tour you only see the ruins and the view. With the tour you see the retoured areas.

Even if you don't like history, or old buildings, you should walk up here to take in the great view from the top of the castle grounds. This has a lot of history, however unless you rent the guide you won't learn much about it....More

Lovely grounds with great views of Heidelberg. We took funicular up and strolled around. The fare €7 included funicular and entry into the courtyard. They were rehearsing a play in one section, I guess as part of the Heidelberg festival. Well worth it.

We took the funicular to reach the castle for a couple of Euro. There is an admission price to tour the castle itself, but the grounds/gardens are free to roam. There is a self guided tour brochure with the price of admission to the castle...More

I've heard parking is difficult here. We have a rental car and will be driving down from Mainz. What is our best option here? We don't mind walking.

I agree with the other people saying you are not going to have success parking by the castle. There are garages down in the town, and you can take the funicular railway up for the same cost as walking up and buying a ticket... More
