For me it's one of the most beautiful old towns in Germany. the little houses in the shopping area are amazing and romantic at the same time. even there are all big shopping brands, they do not destroy the flair with big modern buildings. they...More

We wandered down every street! The architecture is a mix of old and new, both gorgeous. The history has been kept while accommodating everyone. Loved the shopping! And the Churches! And the food. OK - pretty much all of it.

Lots of shopping and places to eat within walking distance. There are chairs and tables set in the middle of the square of people watching too.

This is a nice old town, you might call it typical for many smaller German cities. Being a college town, it definitely has a bit of that sort of vibe for a very old place. As someone visiting, I found that it is more commercialized...More

Expected far better — basically one long street with a few side streets- pretty uninteresting and not worth the detour

We swear by Rick Steve's travel guides and DVDs and routinely agree with his perspectives. In the case of Heidelberg, we must respectfully disagree with Rick, who does not include Heidelberg in his recommended places in his Guide to Germany, referring to Heidelberg's rampant crass...More

Heidelberg is a great city. The Altstadt has plenty of shopping and restaurants to keep you buys for the day.

I'm not 100% sure but you are likely to find attractions such as Heidelberg Castle open (at least limited hours) on Easter Monday. We were there on Dec 26th and while it is a public holiday in Germany (St. Stephens Day) and... More
