We visited Freudenstadt for a few hours during our stay in Black Forest at a camp site. The town was quite small but its square is considered the biggest market square in all of Germany and was very pretty. The square is divided by a motor-road passing through it. We saw children playing football in the centre field and younger... More

The heart of this charming town. There are lots of shops and cafes, a beautiful old church, the town hall with blue onion top to its tower.

Great market square with plenty of beer gardens and cafes to enjoy. Plus you can access the town via the Hochwaldstrasse, best enjoyed in a fast car or nimble motorcycle!

Nothing exciting here. Just a few tourist trap restaurants. Pretty boring and not much to look at. Shame really. Black Forest was much more impressive.

We spent a few hours just wondering round the market square, had a lovely meal and then all played Russian roulette in the water fountains.

Freudenstadt has the biggest market square in Germany and it's Christmas market surrounds it and is quite lovely at that time of the year. In the warmer months it is still quite enjoyable but nothing spectacular. There is a very nice playground and good ice cream for the children (and grown ups too). The architecture is interesting but most buildings... More

A stunning market square, the biggest in Germany. Many cafes and restaurants. Lovely fountains and an interesting church in the local sandstone, light pinky-red in colour and very similar to that used for Strasbourg cathedral. The traffic goes across the middle of it, meaning the pretty arcades around a couple of the sides are unspoilt by traffic.

Quite a nice square with a couple of cafes but nothing to write home about and certainly not worth a detour to visit. Stopped here for breakfast but you can't get away from the fact the main road passes right through.
