An ordinary square. Not very big, cobbled, surrounded by old, well-maintained buildings. Here we find the Augustinermuseum, a museum housed in a former church, where you can see religious art.
From here begins the much more spectacular Gerberau, a very picturesque street.

A grand and popular cobbled space, it is a busy meeting place in the Old Town.

At its centre is the Column of Tolerance that reminds people to be considerate of others, especially after the clocks strikes 11 at night.

Great museums are nearby, particularly the Augustiner and Natural History.

A place where people sit in the summer evenings with their drinks - either on one of the cafes or have brought it along themselves - full of atmosphere!

The Augustinerplatz is the place to meet for students, friends and tour groups. It also has a WC. Nearby is the Augustiner Museum.

A lot of people sitting direct in the sun. Unfortunately not so many places to drink something like people are. Even they are several bars. Who cares: Be flexible and sit where ever you want. Organize a drink or bring it with you :-)

Next to the Augustiner museum (fine collection of mainly medieval art) the open space of the Augustinerplatz gives you the opportunity to just sit down a while and relax - in the sun or in the half-shade of the surrounding buildings. The café is also a nice (but not student-low-price) way to add some ice-cream, coffee/tea or small dish to your break.
There are many small streets and paths between the old houses that are worth exploring on a short stroll (Fischerau coming either from Martinstor or Schwabentor) - we love taking the break after the stroll ;-)
As students we simply enjoyed sitting in the sun for some time; as tourists we went to the café and museum - so whatever your fancy, just visit and decide for yourself.

Maybe we missed something but this wasn't really worth the walk. Just a hilly plaza that made it less "square" than a normal plaza and there really wasn't much to do or people watch. Maybe it is more exciting at night, but I would say skip it during the day unless you are going to the Museum there.

It's a square outside the augustiner museum. It has steps. Young people like to gather and make noise. Locals complained so the council installed a noise meter which, rather than quietening them down was seen more as z challenge to make more noise. Otherwise a nice chill area with lovely shops close by.

A pleasant area within the old town, with part of an old wall and close to the Augustiner museum, when we were there (march 16) there were hoardings at one side for archeological work. Passing through at night time it is really just a place to walk, no great nightlife on the square but very close to some good bars and restaurants. In daytime, people milling around in a happy kind of way...
