The church doesn’t seem as old as it is. Being a Catholic Church it is fairly plain inside. It isn’t a must see site and can be visited in a few minutes. As churches go, it one one of the least impressive I’ve visited.

The church, built on the Florentine Hill, was originally romanesque but it was reshaped in gothic style in the fifteenth century. In the eighteenth century it was barochised. It happened upon its reconstruction after having burnt down during the Nine Year War, in the Great Fire of 1689. Most of the baroque elements were later removed thus making the church regain its former gothic style. Some of the stated elements still exist nowadays however. One of these is the bulbous domes.
The main entrance is made of reddish pinkish sandstone bricks, some parts of which are nicely carved. Over the portal there are two statues representing St. Peter and St. Paul, to whom the church is dedicated, one on each side of the said portal, and that of the Virgin Mary in the middle, all of them in their respective niches. The bricks concerned extend over a certain height on both sides of the portal and cover the relevant wall pane to the vault.
It’s a three naved temple, the central nave being wider and taller than the side aisles. The stained glass windows are very artistically manufactured. Not much light comes into the collegiate through them in the morning. Nevertheless, in the afternoon the situation is that respect is different. At that time of the day one can see across the nave rainbow patterns casted by the said stained glass windows. The upper windows were added upon the mentioned renovation carried out to give back the collegiate its gothic style. The church houses in its choir the magnificent tombs of fourteen margraves of Baden. These were the Holy Roman Empire military commanders. Among those tombs the most relevant are those of Ludovikus Wilhelmo, Ludovikus Georgius and that of Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden-Baden.
The visit to that temple is a must while in Baden-Baden. There are many interesting things to observe in it apart from the aforesaid components, such as the magnificent tabernacle, the sculptures located in the choir including the tombs referred to, the organ and the precious crossed ogives vault. The stoneware crucifix also in the choir is a remarkable testimony of the late Middle Ages sculpture. The whole church is of a great beauty and its visit is worthwhile albeit therefor it is necessary to climb a somewhat steep causeway. The effort, if any, will be more than rewarding.

The Parish Church of Baden-Baden located by the Market Square in the upper part of town, has an over 1000 years old and varied history. First dedicated to St.Peter and Paul it is now a 'Liebfrauenkirche' (Church of Our Lady), It is also called a 'Stiftskirche', since it was a Collegiate Church from 1453 to 1773. On top is has been the burial place of the Margraves of Baden, whose tombs can be found in the interior.
The Stiftskirche is not that overwhelming in comparison to the many grand churches one can find in Germany. It also has to do with the fact, that from its Romanesque beginnings, it was changed into gothic, then came the baroque period and a big fire, until at the end of the 19th it was turned into a mainly Gothic ecclesiastical building again.
The church has stained glass windows and maybe the single most attractive sight is the delicate wooden tabernacle from around 1490. There is an information board by it - in German: 'Filigranes Sakramenthäuschen mit Tabernakel'.
Over the front gate is a tower, which has kept some Romanesque elements. The cobble-stoned Marktplatz in front of the church is surrounded by some attractive buildings and higher up is the Neues Schloss, which cannot be visited, but from around it one has great views over the town of Baden-Baden.

The church is fine to see but the best thing to do is to take the set of steps on the left hand side of the open area restaurant, and climb up the hill to get the most spectacular view of Baden Baden.

Worth the climb up the steps beside the Friedrichsbad. A very tranquil Catholic Church with a peaceful atmosphere. The Stiftskirche is worth seeing for the monument to Türkenlouis, Louis William Margrave of Baden-Baden.

If you need a good reason to visit another church - the dramatic sarcophacus of Count Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden is a very, VERY good reason. I wish I could afford such a tombstone...

There are lots of little, beautiful things in this town. This church is actually a main reason to visit Baden-Baden. An Imperial document from 987 provides the first proof of this church. The west tower of the church dates from the first half of the 13th century. The appearance of the church has changed several times due to alterations and the destruction from the town fire of 1689. The church's remarkable interior today includes a sacramental house from around 1490 and a crucifix by the important sculptor Niclaus Gerhaert von Leyden from 1467. There’s a pretty sandstone sculpture from 1490, of Saint Christopher holding Jesus on his shoulder. Comparing German churches to Italian, the German churches are positively drab! This one does have some nice art in it though.

Not a "classic" but I always find value in seeing the churches of Europe. Very traditional on the outside, newer on the inside.
