My adult son and I drove over to Baden-Baden from Strasbourg for the day. We wanted a short hike, allowing us some time in town as well. Weather was perfect (sunny, 70's F) and we walked part of Stage 2 from the cable car parking area . This was an easier stage (not much elevation to conquer) and trails were well maintained.
Nice mix of forest, fields and orchards, with scenic vistas to enjoy a long the way. Though it was still too early for changing leaf color (early-mid October), we saw plenty of brilliant greens. Next time, I might stay over in Baden-Baden and take advantage of the trail network that is so convenient to town.

A fabulous walk around Baden Baden. Depending on where you start you are in for a steep climb - about 500m up - but the views are amazing and the forest is calm and magical. Highly recommended.

We did this hike in October, and with the leaves starting to turn the forest was stunningly beautiful. We were prepared for rainy weather, given the time of year (not ideal - we were planning around a work conference so not much flexibility with dates), but were very lucky and had spectacular weather! As well as forest, the hike takes you through villages, farmyards, orchards and fields, all while the birds are chirping and you may hear the chime of churchbells in the distance. The hike itself involves some ascending, but is not at all difficult, with the track easy to walk on. Our only difficulty was that the signs did not match the map we had for part of stage 1, and in fact the signage seemed to indicate we should walk through the Neues schloss, which was closed - we followed the map from there and did not have any troubles; I would therefore suggest that a map is a necessity, and perhaps stopping at the tourist office beforehand so your map is up-to-date would be a worthwhile use of time. We did stages 1-3 on day 1, overnighting in Geroldsau, and completed stages 4-5 on day 2, walking to and from Bernharduskirche from the centre of Baden Baden at either end of the hike, but you can do as many stages as you like, starting at any point, as there is bus transport to all stages.

Easy to catch a bus to drop you off and pick up back to town. Several stages with various difficulties and length.

Take food and drink with you, it’s wonderful to sit and look at the scenery and places to get food limited.

The whole Panoramaweg is more than 40 kms long , and probably takes more than one day , whilst unfortunately the local map is being reprinted , so it was very much “ explore using your own resources for us .

We chose two contrasting walks , the first from the old castle at Burg Alt - Elberstein - about 5kms with fantastic views on both sides , the other shorter and more gentle on the rondweg to the Geroldsau waterfalls and back , but in both cases we would loved to have done more , the Panoramasweg has a surfeit of signs pointing out other walks , but it would probably be wiser to have a map before setting out , since we met very few other people on our travels

This circular walking trail in the Black Forest round Baden-Baden is well waymarked but you need a map - the 1:25000 one can be bought at the tourist office in the Trinkhalle. There is plenty of up and down but only a few steep bits. It is mostly on forest tracks with some sections on narrower paths. I would guess 80% - 90% is in woodland, which I was glad of in the very warm early September weather in the three days when I walked it. You can reach the northern part on foot from Baden-Baden, otherwise buses provide access at various points.

I followed the signs from the city up into the hills to see some of the forest. It was well labelled and I had a walk for around 1 hour and then headed back. A great experience.

A lovely waterfall where you can reach the water
The walk to the waterfall is short (downhill), there is a nice observation point on the way to it, and you can go down to the pool and enter the water. On the way back we stopped at the cafe on the way and ate an excellent apple strudel.

If cycling is your thing do come. Bring a map of GPS though as some of the trails and pathways are a little confusing. Wonderful scenery.

Relaxing walk immersed in the greenery of the Black Forest.
The routes are well signposted and quite easy to follow.
It's a shame that not everyone is respectful of it, and therefore it often happens that you find waste abandoned on the ground.
