What a beautiful art house it was, what a disaster it is today. A shame. It’s a theater that I frequented a lot in the past, a superb house with international ethics. Experience today was simply horrible. First of all, purchasing tickets: I tried to reserve two tickets for the same evening on the website. To be able to do this you have to create a complicated profile. Once the places have been chosen, the site begins payment. Suspension. I phone the ticket office who nonchalantly tells me that this happens often. I was offered to buy tickets over the phone. Which I do but I can't buy places that I had initially chosen because they were "lost in the system". So I pay for new places over the phone and receive a confirmation email with a download link. To download tickets, the link goes to my file on the opera website. You must complete a complete login again. I end up downloading places. Arriving at the theater, the usherette scans my seats which appear to be invalid. You have to fight, call the person in charge to finally be able to return. All this for first category seats at more than 100 Euro per seat. A sketch that in my long experience as a spectator only Lyon Opera offers with disconcerting carelessness.
Then comes the dirt. Just a shame the state of cleanliness of the building. The marble square already welcomes you with its dirt which does not make you want to cross the door of the theater. And the worst part is the toilets, simply a shame. Dirty, disgusting, not cleaned between intermissions, disgusting bowls and rims, trash cans overflowing with user papers... and so on.
It looks like the Lyon opera no longer has a pilot. The lack of respect for the spectator is at its peak. It is assumed that the management of the Lyon opera never uses the public toilets. But it would be edifying for her if she did so. In any case I think that the Lyon Opera can claim the Palme d’Or for the dirtiest and most poorly organized theater in the world. What a shame!

We had a guided tour around this theatre as part of a 'french exchange' programme and I have to say it was a marvellous building architecturally, especially from the dance studio where the glass windows gave stunning panoramic views of the city. Worth a visit!

I feel like a con artist writing my experience here because I did not actually enter the venue itself!!!!!

What I did with friends though was attend a great Jazz concert at the entrance if the Opera house. Food and beverages were available. The vibe was great...the music was superb...the building itself is very interesting...

I have never seen this before but this Opera house is actually a gathering place in the heart of Lyon!

The architect took an older house and rethought is completely. The result is very modern, but it works. It uses the horseshoe configuration, still the best possible configuration for an opera house, and once you get used to the dominance of the colour black the house grows on you. The opera we saw, "The Fiery Angel" by Prokofiev, was well-produced, with good voices, but if you don't go the opera regularly you may find the production rather strange. We liked it, but not everyone will.

The opera Damnation de Faust Berliozin Opera Nationale de Lyon.
A warm welcome at the entrance, the dark foyer that suits perfectly well to that opera, one take an escalator and goes up surrounded with black, gold and red. The the hall itself, also quite dark and solemn, though seemed to be small. The seats are located quite comfortably, no one would impede your vision.
The performance was something modern that didn't spoile the whole impression, it was in place and at time.
The quality of orchestra performance was really great, thanks the conductor!
The singers were really great, just terrific,
The music is heaven like and it was a real feast for the opera-lovers. Thank you.
The only disappointment was that we couldn't get in the restaurant during the entire-acts, it was fully booked. So, if you wish, do it in advance no later than a day before the performance.

Opera National de Lyon has been built in 1993 and ever since it is one of the must see places of Lyon. Guided visit is highly recommended. The perfect correlation of the ultramodern and classical style is present throughout the entire building in and out. The cafe- restaurant is well worth the visit itself.

New Years concert of music on Broadway. Lots of stairs and acoustics were not good on the 5th level. Music was good and the bar on the ground floor was atmospheric

Our first time at this modern opera. Well acted, well sung. In a couple of scenes the orchestra seemed louder than the singers/ hearing the singing wasn't the best.
Everything (inc toilets) is decorated in black which didn't bother us and is clearly to focus on what is happening on the stage without any distraction. Some people around us found the black claustrophobic so better to know about that before hand. Staff not always that well organised at sorting the crowd. But nothing shocking. Simply could be better. Enjoyed the matinee. Would consider going back if planning to come back in the area. For best seats we had to book almost 1 year & 1/2 ago. A very popular location

I cannot recommend this concert venue, though the musicians performing were magnificent, and the limited sets were enchanting, and evocative. This is blending of old and new at its worst: neither is served well. It is set in a rather urban setting, so when entering the building you are confronted by various street artists, and all the noise that entails. There is nothing elegant about this place, or the concept of design. The staff were extremely helpful, and were willing to listen and talk. (What a concept in France!) We had to leave after two scenes because the seats were so uncomfortable.

The operahouse was renovated by Jean Nouvel and we had great expactations. But the overall experience was a disappointment to us.
The new structure is looking a bit like a factory on the outside. The interior design was neither beautiful or comfortable, the accoustic quality of the concert hall is rather poor.
The whole interior in black may be nice as a concept, but feels very claustrophobic. And: seemingly it is hard to keep the interior clean.
We could not help but wonder what it would be like when the building has to be evacuated, as stairs were very narrow.
