Fourviere Hill is reached from Vieux Lyon Metro Station by the little red funicular cars which take about 3-4 minutes up to the Basilica & best viewpoint in Lyon. From the terrace/ balcony at the east end of the tree lined square next to the Basilica, it's not only an incredible view over Lyon, but as I discovered in clear... More

We all agree that the view is amazing. This comment is advice for anyone looking for a machine that can change bills for coins. In "The Pilgrim's Shelter", there are vending machines for drinks and for souvenir "medallions" that only accept coins. I go to the tourist information booth, to ask where I could get some change, and the employees... More

Accessible by funicular and worth the ride up. Lovely ornate church at the top, built about 150 years ago. The Roman ruins just down hill a little from here are the most impressive, with whole streets visible from the 3rd century. The walk down to town takes you through winding old streets - down a cul de sac off one... More

We took the funicular up from Vieux Lyon to the top of Fourviere Hill, where there were amazing views of Lyon as well as access to Notre Dame Basilica, the Roman Theatres and Gallo-Roman Museum.

Absolutely beautiful. Clear view of the rivers and the city around it. On a clear day you can apparently see Mont Blanc - we had cloud. Loved getting such an overview of the city, although my legs would have preferred taking the train up!

This is truly a must see if you come to Lyon. If the weather is good you will have an amazing view of the city. Even if the weather isn't great the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere is magnificent.

That's what I love when we travel all over Europe, there is always a place to see the view of any magnificent city, medieval or new. The panorama at Dubrovnik, Citadel at Buda to see Pest, Chiado at Lisbon, to name a few. Now at this hill to see the beauty of Ancient Lyon.

Best to go up on the funicular from Vieux Lyon station and then walk down where you will find some shaded park and beautiful rose garden - current being restored. The cathedral and views are beautiful and the Roman amphitheatre spectacular and all free!

This is the place to go for a grand view of Lyon. Combine with a visit to the cathedral and use the funicular to avoid the steep hills, unless you want the excersise.
