The Canebiere is the iconic street of Marseille. But it's very uneven, some portions are uninteresting, some buildings are being renovated so no shops for the time being. The interesting parts are what's at either end, or parallel to it.

La Canebière is meant to be the equivalent of the Champs-Elysées of Marseille. But it isn't by far. The shops and bars aren't very nice and good looking, plus the street in itself is dirty and not well frequented at nighttime!

La Canebière is the historic high street in the old quarter of Marseille, France. About a kilometre long, it runs from the Old Port of Marseille to the Réformés quarter. It has been called the Champs-Élysées of Marseille. The name 'Canebière' ('Canabiera' in Provençal dialect)...More

This is one of the loveliest streets in Marseille and possibly France. We stayed in Marseille for five days and loved having a stroll in this nice area. On one side is the old port, and this is a really exciting area to be in....More

Street like street. They say it's champs of Elysium of Marseilles. It does have a beautiful church at one end and old port on the other. Few nice shops. I personally don't think it's something must to see, but you don't need to avoid it...More

As a shopping venue, it's OK, but its real value is that it's an easy route to some more interesting places - the Centre de Bourse on one side and the Marche des Capucins on the other - or, at the time we visited, the...More

This a famous street that has been around for centuries in Marseille. It has been the hub of activity for hundreds of years. The closer you are to the Vieux Port the nicer it is. The closer to the Arab market the more varied it...More

I have fallen in love with Marseille. La Canebiere is 'main street' Marseille. Once elegant but now more 'used'. Marseille has gems hidden around every corner, in every nook and cranie. This is not a place for tourists looking for a pristine, serene experience. Nice...More

Ok if you like shops, crowds and expensive items. Very busy area, nothing really special, different or unique, noisy and full of car fumes.

It must have been a nice area in the past. Today, it has lost its charm, and it has become just another street.
