A staircase leads to this impressive 11m high black virgin and if you are lucky the chapel will be open. Do not hesitate to push the door to discover this place dedicated to Saint Hospice killed by the Saracens in 581. Below the chapel is the Belgian military cemetery of the First World War, calm and quiet, the visit is interesting.

When my son studied the brutal history of King Leopold in high school, we stumbled upon the fact that the King brought sick Belgian soldiers to Cap Ferrat to recuperate from their wounds, which most did not. These brave soldiers, fighting for a madman, have found a beautiful, quiet final resting place in the shadow of a nearly 1000 year old chapel, which is open to the public.
One tip, if you walk there from Port St. Jean, heading south, do not stop at the big huge black gates on the right. That is not the place. Keep walking, another five minutes, past Paloma Beach, the narrow road turns, and then as soon as you pass the toilette on the right, you'll see the chapel and cemetery with a small parking lot. The lower cemetery is for the village, the upper is for the soldiers. Look for the Belgian colors on the tombstones.

The tombstones of great men that fought the war is beautifully situated overlooking the EZE, Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu sur mer and Cap d -'Ail.
In the small chapel one can quite one's mind and be still in God's presence.

This is a small church off the beaten track but a very spiritual experience. Not much to look at or to add to this description. Spectacular sculpture and a quiet place to repose and pray at.

I love Chapelle Saint Hospice
So peaceful, I love looking round the cemetery here it is very unusual and has a special area dedicated to dead servicemen.
The Chapelle itself is very old and beautiful. Go and light a candle for a loved one.

This chapel is a tiny example next to an enormous 11m high bronze Madonna and child. Just below the chapel is a commonwealth war graveyard kept in impeccable condition and benefitting from complete serenity of the surroundings. The size of the bronze Madonna alone makes this chapel worth a visit, but linked with a stroll around the peninsula Pointe Sainte-Hospice, it's a great way to spend a couple of hours. The walk takes you past some of the most desirable properties to be found, and the waters are always tempting for a quick dip as they seem to be permanently clear. A little "secret" - just down the road from the chapel are probably the cleanest public toilets on the Riviera if not anywhere, and they're free. Please leave them as you find them.

We came across Chapelle Saint Hospice while driving around the cap & it was a delight. Outside there is an 11 metre high statue of the Madonna & child. The church itself is very simple but heartwarming.

The chapel is located around 10 minutes from the Paloma beach peninsula path walk. At the top there are elevated views around the peninsula. The restored 17th century chapel is dedicated to a Benedictine monk named Hospitius and was once an important pilgrimage site. Inside the chapel is simple in design but there are a large collection of paintings by Louis Marchand des Raux which depicts his impression of the miracles of St Hospice.
Adjacent to the building is an 11m high black Madonna cast early in the 20th century. There is also an immaculate Belgium war cemetery from WWI nearby.
As you approach the chapel there are also clean free toilets available at the roadside.
A peaceful location off the main tourist route which was quiet at the time we visited.

This chapel is off the beaten path with a nice view point overlooking the sea and a cemetery honoring Belgian soldiers.
