About
It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

- Azsunshine193041 contributionsOutstanding and tickets available at the VillaNo need to pay ahead. We went a few days ago in October 2023 and I am reading about tourists who are getting scammed by local bus drivers who demand credit cards and passports, then fine tourists when the credit cards don’t work. There is ticket office inside the door of the villa. We had a car so I can’t offer tips on public transportation. Parking in October mid-day was easy but there is limited parking on site so I’m not sure how parking is handled during the high tourist season of summer. This is an outstanding site to visit. Get the audio guide as you learn so much that otherwise you would not know. First, the setting overlooking the Mediterranean is stunning, it will take your breath away. The house is beautiful and elaborate with Louis the XVI furnishings, an extensive collection of Sevre and Meissen porcelains, but the extensive gardens were my favorite. This is a step back into the time of the Belle Epoque. The young woman, Beatrice, inherited her father’s Rothschild fortune, was unhappily married, could not have children after her much older husband gave her an infection, so she put her time and money into building this place, gambling at the casinos, and doting on her animals. We had lunch at the cafe and were amazed at the quality of the food. The two items on the menu that stood out at some of the best food we had in France was the risotto carbonara and the lemon tartlette. The salad was also very good and beautifully presented. The setting of the cafe is on the patio of the villa overlooking the sea.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023

I visited this extraordinary place on May and I was delighted this garden and views from various perspectives to the sea. I am sure that I will came back there to see it again, because that nature, views and sophisticated layout of this garden are really unique. To me one of the most beautiful place on our planet. - Indiana1000Victoria, Canada49 contributionsReally worth the visitWe arrived just as the gates opened, which seemed perfect timing. We had the gardens to ourselves. This is a gorgeous place, with spectacular views of Cap Ferrat from inside the villa and from the gardens. The house is just as interesting as the many, many gardens. The exterior of the house as you enter is under some restoration, but it doesn't mar the experience. The fountains are beautiful, but they've piped in some completely unnecessary music, which makes it a little Veags for my preference. We had coffee and cake on the terrace, which was lovely. There is also a beautiful diningroom. You can buy your tickets online beforehand, or at the ticket office onsite. We took an Uber there and back, since we didn't have a car. I was a little nervous about getting an Uber to get us all the way up in the hills, but it arrived within 4 minutes of calling, so zero problems. The villa was one of the best places we saw in Nice.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 November 2023
- stewW4London, United Kingdom288 contributionsFormidable! Many years since our last visit and glad to have returned. The gardens and views are stunning. The villa is just like home, if you have a spectacular fortune and exquisite taste. The audioguide is very informative if a little coy about the 'infection ' Ephrussi gave his wife. The Baroness threw a wedding for her dog, reported in the Boston Times. Over a hundred dogs attended. Just like home, if you are unfathomably wealthy. It is a beautiful place . Go!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 January 2024
- Ros223Woking, United Kingdom150 contributionsBeautiful & fascinating villaWorth a trip just for the gorgeous setting and views. The tour of the garden leads you through the different areas until you reach the fountains in front of the villa which have a charming musical accompaniment. In the villa itself they provide an excellent and informative audio guide, I could have stayed for hours! A real highlight of my trip to Nice.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- Traveler CLos Angeles, California407 contributionsA great visitSimilar to the Getty Villa in California, this villa is in essence a beautiful house with a nice collection of art, furniture as well as a beautiful garden. There’s a small room on the 2nd floor that played a short documentary video, which recounts the story behind the villa. Beatrice Rothschild, the ex-owner of the villa, started collecting art after her divorce with Maurice Ephrussi. We visited the villa on a clear day and enjoyed the visit & views of the Mediterranean.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 May 2024
- TimBLeedsLeeds, United Kingdom120 contributionsA must visit for those who like a grand villa and gardensTruly beautiful house and grounds. A must. Only issue I had was that they would not let me have an audio guide as I didn't bring any ID. Who would have thought you need ID to use an audio guide!😐 would have been 5 stars if this hadn't have happened, however, despite that the place is very beautiful with manicured gardens, a very pleasant cafe, and opulent villa. Good value for money at about €17 if I remember correctly. Slightly limited parking but we had no problem on the day. Been meaning to visit this place for years and it didn't let me down.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 May 2024
- fairlies2017Sydney, Australia78 contributionsAmazing wealth and opulence on display from the Belle Epoque period. Once wonderful gardens now looking a little tired.Wonderful to stroll the 9 themed gardens and see inside the massive pink villa, once home to a Rothschild but now state-run and owned. Needs some paintwork refreshing in places but overall a terrific experience and incredible exhibition of valuable collections of antiques, furniture, art and porcelain. Lunch was lovely but on the expensive side and you can’t take a picnic. Water display was a highlight and the rose garden is special but the incredible views from both sides make us very worthwhile.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 June 2024
- PatrickCologne, Germany51 contributionsOne of the bestThe Villa of Ms Rothschild is a jewel! I already visited a lot of special mansions in my life, but this one was one of the beast i've ever seen. A perfecte mixture of art, culture and elegance. The gardens are also extraordinal. Visit this villa should be a must-do during a nice trip!Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 21 June 2024
- Jennifer T51 contributionsFeminine MansionThis mansion is designed by a women for a women making it a unique experience. It’s the first large villa I walked into that I wanted to live in. The audio guide is really good and helped me understand the period. I ate a shrimp salad in the beautiful restaurant. It was a little expensive 22 EUR but I thought it was worth it due to talent in food and beautiful room to dine in. The gardens are magnificent.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 July 2024

In my opinion the garden is more interesting than the villa itself. The collection is too eclectic for me, but if you know what is behind it you can understand and easily accept it. It is worth to visit. They have a small museum shop as well. From Nice the public transportation is good and convenient. The museum staff is bored and unfriendly, except the two guards who are checking the visitors' temperature.

Add this to your Nice itinerary. There is admission bu tit covers villa and gardens, plus the continuous dancing water "shows" set to classical music. Such a wonderful escape from crowds on the coast. Not air conditioned so it's warm inside in the summer. There is free parking and a golf cart to take you up the hill. This is a must do for me. Plus if you love "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" this place should be on your site list!

The Villa Rothschild is an amazing pink faced mansion with incredible views, wonderfully historic and unique furnishings, and impeccable gardens. Where else would you see a fireplace screen owned by Marie Antoinette; rugs that were the only ones saved from Versailles after the rest were burned by the rebels in the 1789 Revolution, and chandeliers that reflect the sunlight off the azure blue water?! I'm neutral when it comes to touring old mansions, but this one is spectacular both in its design and its setting with such spectacular views.
You can easily take the bus from Nice and land right across the street from the villa. There is a small gift shop there as well.
It is a respite and a moment to feel part of this other incredible world.

These gardens are heaven on Earth. Exquisitely crafted “zones” - Spanish garden, garden of stone, Japanese garden, Exotic, Provençal, rose, etc culminating in fountain displays in front of the beautiful pink villa. Set on the exclusive Cap Ferrat you can see the Med on either side.

My opinion on the evenings organized at the Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild is divided.
On the one hand, there are several positive points to highlight. The villa is, without a doubt, breathtaking. Parking is very convenient and the gardens are well maintained, although there are still areas for improvement. Concerning the catering, both at lunch and dinner during these evenings, it is completely correct. However, there are some negative aspects that tarnish the experience. For example, making customers wait until 8:00 p.m. at the door when it would be more judicious to welcome them from 7:00 p.m. to allow them a peaceful visit to the gardens is a decision that I find regrettable. Especially since those who dine at the restaurant do not have the opportunity to explore the gardens and miss part of the show or concert, due to the slowness of the service (nearly 2 hours if going quickly). This management seems all the more surprising given the standing of the place.
Additionally, a notable improvement would be the addition of bar service in the gardens. It seems to me that the management team does not give enough importance to the customer experience. It would make sense that those who invest in an expensive meal would have the opportunity to visit the gardens, dine without rushing and fully enjoy the spectacle. For an establishment located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, one of the most beautiful villas, offering a meal at 109 euros per person, we expect a flawless high-end experience.

The place is worth it, if you come by car, you absolutely must arrive at opening time in order to find a space in their parking lot.
Take the audio guide (it is included in the ticket price)
It is a magnificent villa, with tapestries, furniture and porcelain that you should take the time to discover. From the first floor you will have a magnificent view.
The gardens are exotic and very pleasant. The waterfall and pools are brought to life with musical water games.
It is a preserved place far from the hustle and bustle.

The entrance fee is now 16€ but it’s really worth it. The art collection is so varied and extensive that it’s hard to summarise the experience. The interiors vividly displays the opulence of the super rich in the early 1900s. At the same time the art collection expands across the early centuries. The garden beautifully displays plants from all over the globe, punctuated by numerous stone sculptures and water features. The musical fountain runs for over 20 minutes on the hour every hour. Very enjoyable.
The cafe/ restaurant makes a lovely stop for lunch / tea. Quality of food and service is top notch.

So many beautiful things about the villa and the gardens.
The tour is audio style which you can take at your own pace. Most of the building is still in original condition I think some floors have been restored.
Very fascinating.
There was a musical water fountain that danced to classical music which was fantastic.
A must see for art and history lovers.

Nice, average prices .parking attention because there are not many parking lots and when full do park in the town and prices are not the best.
You enter and you can have for the Villa visit an audio guide included in the price that explains both summarily and in detail (by pressing various buttons) the whole history of this interesting and beautiful Villa.
The interior is not very large while the gardens to visit them calmly require more time. There are nice benches to rest and take the cool .present also a souvenir shop carino.luogo ideal for lovers of greenery and beautiful fountains that at certain times make water games.

Is it possible to get a ticket that combines a visit to the Villa & gardens together with a Nocturne at the Villa? We thought we'd like to go early enough to visit the Villa and then enjoy The Nocturnes event.

We went there on 2 Nov 2024, a Saturday. Parking situation is terrible. At most, room for 40 vehicles on site, all along 2 single lane dead ends. Cars continuously cycling thru, backing up, reversing, etc this mess, without success. We crossed the road seeking public paid parking, and travelled several hundred metres without finding a single roadside spot. Returned to Ephrussi so we could access a WC, and used a handicapped spot for a few minutes. Never got to see the site. A disaster.
