The Basilique de Notre-Dame de l'Assomption of Nice is the largest place of worship in the city, even though it is not the Cathedral; it was elevated to the role of minor Basilica by Pope Paul VI in 1978.
It is located on Avenue Jean Médecin, in the city center; it was built in neo-Gothic style starting from 1864, and the exterior was inspired by the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris, with which there are several similarities, and the interior was inspired by the Abbey of St Serge of Averse.
The works lasted 11 years, and its dedication took place only in 1925.
The exterior of the Basilica is characterized by the elaborate façade and the two 31 m high side towers; the interiors, with three naves of the same height with cross vaults, are characterized by beautiful colored windows.
Its very central location makes it visible to the many tourists and residents who incessantly travel along the Jean Médecin artery.

Neo-Gothic Basilica Notre Dame in located on one of the main streets (Avenue Jean Medecin) a few blocks from the main train station. Construction started in 1864 and it was completed in 1879. It is the largest church in Nice and was inspired by the Angers Cathedral. Has two square towers 65m high and a large rose window on the Assumption of Mary. Very beautiful interior and exterior.

France has so many magnificent and fascinating cathedrals, even in medium-sized and even small towns. In Nice, this large, sophisticated city, this neo-Gothic church stands a little lost on one of the shopping streets. It has a very wide space inside, open up by the very slender pillars. But it doesn't really excite me.

A fabulous location for a holy building amongst the shops and fashion labels that define a material outlook. This is a holy shop were you will find peace, joy and inner peace. Also no charge !! A must visit.

Cathedrals aren’t always better than basilicas. Often they are not. Here the basilica outshines the cathedral with a calm, serene atmosphere punctuated by some good stained glass windows. I went there three, maybe four times. I even sat down for a while and found it relaxing and contemplative. If I lived in Nice, I could see visiting on a regular basis, perhaps attending a service or two. It’s not huge. You can be in and out in 5 minutes, if you want to. And the fact that it is on the main drag of Nice means you can do window shopping, grocery shopping, have a meal in a wide choice of restaurants runnning from fast food to casual to fine dining. And it’s just nice to walk around this pedestrian onlyarea except for trams. Everyone does. So no reason not to step in and take a gander.

Bang in the middle of the shopping street that is Av. Jean Médecin, this startling Basilica stands out.
We knew it as the place where a terrorist killed 3 innocent people 4 years before and this is subtly commemorated with a plaque.
The Basilica is very peaceful and actually quite small.
Very contemplative.

Beautiful church, with a similar architecture to the Notre Dame of Paris. Nothing special on the interior but still worth a quick visit

This was a gorgeous place to attend mass, though I had difficulty finding mass times. Sat night mass is 6 pm; Sun is 9 am, 10:30 am & 6:00 pm. There is no mass time posted at the church for Mon morning, but there is a 6:00 pm on Mon. Tues-Sat there is an 11am and 6 pm mass. Hope this is helpful to others who would like to attend.

While in Nice, the Notre Dame is a must-see. It strongly resembles the Paris one, and is very centrally located within Nice. Wonderful design, the stained glass windows are exquisite and there usually aren’t too many visitors inside. It is also free to enter.

Does anyone know the Sunday mass schedule?
Written 3 July 2016
I don't know the schedule. If you want to pass some time waiting for the service, the area is great for walking and sightseeing. I am sure the front desk person at your hotel can also supply the schedule for you. Enjoy!
