About
The Marc Chagall national Museum, created during the artist's lifetime, houses the masterly cycle of the Biblical Message. It bears witness to the great diversity of the painter's artistic practices. Paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, ceramics as well as stained glass, tapestry and mosaics, constitute a unique body of work where technical virtuosity, colourful inventions and a universal message of peace are combined.

    Excellent Small Museum
This is a superb small museum with some outstanding works by Chagall. His vivid paintings come to life in the museum, which should be a top site to visit if you are in Nice. We took a taxi there from our hotel as it is somewhat off the beaten track. We waited and waited at the taxi stand after our visit, but no one showed up, so we finally called an Uber, which came right away. I note this because it is a fairly long walk to trams and trains.

    Impressive collection
I was at museum at 9.45 reaching it by unpleasant uphill way. I was already happy that I was able to came here all long way from J Med av. There already was staying group of 10 French tourists. I moved on the line. Staff appeared 10 min before opening and create a line direction with the ribbons - which is good. Suddenly group from the bus with russian tourists arrived almost at 10. Their guide was not sure if staff will permit them enter earlier than first people in the line, he spoke with the staff and received a permission. But firsts people came also entered almost 5 min later, it was nice. The exhibition is not big, but it is very good and impressive. I really enjoyed my visit. I liked more artworks in bright spacious rooms. It is really worth to see. My advice - just came 10-15 min before opening and nothing will ruin your mood and impressions from museum.

    Be Prepared to Wait
This is a fantastic museum, assuming you are patient. We showed up at 12:35 p.m. and were told the ticket office was closed. We returned at 1:45 p.m. and were permitted in at exactly 2:00 p.m. The paintings are superb and well worth the €8 per person. Upon exiting there was a long line to enter, as preference is given to group tours.

How can you say no to Chagall?
While the security to enter is a bit of a hassle. Chagall was such a wonderful artist that this museum is a must when in Nice. I was a bit saddened not to see more works on display, however, I will trust that France knows how to handle the works of the great artists. Don't forget to see the stained glass windows.

    Chagall museum will not disappoint!!!
Make sure you visit this museum while in Nice and be sure to watch the short video of his life. It was very informative. The museum has a special exhibit going on right now that we unfortunately missed. However; the permanent collection did not disappoint. Stunning work mainly of biblical subjects. Definitely check out if you are a Chagall fan.

Loved going there and feel it's a must if you're in Nice - and worth going there to see it.
This was my favorite museum of all. Starting with seeing the fabulous neighborhood it's in, to looking at Chagall's paintings, which tell the story he wanted to tell of a historical time that resonates now. I was blown away by the film with music that had played in my home as a child and seeing how sensitive and lovely the artist. I highly recommend visiting it.

Must-see museum in Nice--glorious and worth the climb
What a fabulous museum - full of a lifetime of Chagall's beautiful paintings and good history of his life from early to late years - a complete presentation. The Biblical paintings were glorious, and many others works evoking his youth in Russia and later years in France and US and during the war years--simply spectacular. The museum has limited hours--morning 10:00 to noon, then two hour closure, then opens again at 2:00 - but there is a charming outdoor cafe there (we were there in the summer) with a friendly staff and good food in the shade - a perfect place to pass time until opening.

Special museum. Not to be missed when visiting the south of France
The Chagall museum is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon when visiting the south of France. It’s located in a beautiful neighborhood. the cafe is located in the surrounding garden and is a great place to relax and have lunch. You can download an app onto your smartphone and scan codes next to most of the paintings to hear information about the paintings and artist in English I loved loved loved this museum. It is not to be missed when visiting the south of France. I would definitely go back again.

    Must visit while in Nice
The Old Testament paintings are incredible. We joined in a guided tour and really benefited from the insights of the curator. We lined up a little before the post-lunch 2 pm reopening and while there was a bit of a wait we entered within a reasonable time. There was an even longer line outside when we left so I’m glad we arrived when we did. The museum is not very large so I am sure they are careful to limit the number of people inside at one time. There are 2 bag checks and a metal detector to enter. No food or drinks allowed inside or in your bag so plan accordingly. There was a small kiosk before the final entrance door where you could leave your water bottle.

Expected a crowd. Very well managed, so there was plenty of space to see the pictures. Queuing was fine for tickets and small queue at Security. Good idea to buy the guidebook. Restaurant in the garden was very pleasant. And then there are the Chagall…

Marc Chagall gifted a series of biblically themed paintings to the French state who then designed this building around showcasing that artwork and it shows. The rooms bringing out the stunning colours and scale of these works and the building is really impressive. However, I think it was the smaller preparatory pieces which I really ended up loving. It was great to see works in progress. I think it was usually 10 euro to visit the gallery but we got in for free because some of the exhibits had to be cordoned off for some reason. I think we still saw about 80% of all the work, so it was generous of the gallery not to charge. There were also huge mosaic murals outside and a auditorium with three stunning Chagall stained glass windows in them.

We enjoyed a rainy day experience at this museum. Much of the exhibits were closed to the public, but what we saw was really good stuff! Chagall's love of colors came through loud and clear. Because some of the museum was closed to the public the price of entrance was reduced to "free!" That made it even better!

The museum is supposed to close at 5 p.m. as indicated on the website.
This February 28, without notice, the museum closed at 4:30 p.m.! But staff started closing rooms at 4:10 p.m. and asked visitors to leave at 4:15 p.m.!
This is making fun of visitors who pay €10 for 5 rooms!!
There were foreign visitors with us who spoke of an "unpleasant experience". Beautiful image you give! Ah! The icing on the cake: when we reached our vehicle at 4:25 p.m., we came across one of the supervisors already leaving with hers!!

This gallery displays some beautiful examples of Chagall’s work in a purpose built setting and the whole thing works superbly well. You can experience the overall effect of the works as well as taking in the detail. I found the English language commentary handset helpful and easy to use. The size of the collection is just right - enough to get your teeth into but not so much that it’s overwhelming. I particularly enjoyed the mural on the outside wall which can be viewed from inside the building as a consequence of the building’s thoughtful design. The auditorium is wonderful too. I intend to plan my next visit to coincide with a concert there. I only wish there were more concerts to choose from as they appear to be few and far between.
I love this gallery and hope to visit again.

The Chagall museum was designed by the artist and intended to house huge and impressive biblical paintings. There are also prints and smaller paintings and ceramics and a wonderful waterfall mosaic fountain. There is English language signage that is helpful. It is worth the visit.

About 25 years ago I had the good fortune to see the Chagall stained glass windows at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. I’ve never forgotten their beauty, so the chance to visit his museum here in Nice was a must.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Biblical works - they are huge and the colors are so vibrant. The theater contains three large stained glass windows along with a piano that has a Chagall work painted on the inside cover. There are numerous paintings, sculptures and mosaics as well. Unfortunately, the ceiling mosaic was not operational on the day of my visit, but a life-size picture was in its place. For some reason, one of the rooms was closed, although I was able to peek in and see some of the paintings on display. A lovely museum, befitting an artist of many talents. When you’re there, be sure to say hello to Toto, the white terrier who sits outside the museum entrance.

If you are interested in the history of art or indeed just the work of Marc Chagall, a visit to this museum is a must. It is dedicated to his biblical cycle. It is not my favourite subject but the paintings are beautiful and the whole thing most impressive. I particularly liked his Rose bleu.

This fairly small museum devoted to Chagall was undergoing restoration because of rainwater damage. A number of Chagall works were showing. We also listened to a concert in the auditorium of the museum which was lit by beautiful stained glass windows.

Although he wanted this building to feel like a home, it does not, and it is all the better that it feels like a fabulous place to display his work. It is purpose built to display his large paintings, mosaics, stained glass etc. The auditorium was not showing the film advertised but a musical ensemble practicing with a fair degree of attitude!

NOTE: Check the times! It closes from noon until 2pm, so open times are 2 hours in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. The museum building itself is unremarkable - and is planned that way, so that the art would be the focus. The artwork is amazing. I would definitely recommend this for anyone interested in art.
