The day we walked around the market was mostly antiques for sale at one end. The other end had some nice home crafted items such as wood animals. Worth a visit as you are wandering through the town

We recently rented an apartment in the Forville district of Cannes. That's all we knew.
On arrival we found that our flat was 10 yards from the Marche Forville, and were met with a feast of colour freshness and friendliness. These people know what fresh is, and what good food is all about. From large producers taking several tables, to single tables with one old lady selling honey, or bunches of basil.
A week after returning the the dull, and long sold-by UK the smells are still in our system.
We hadn't intended a self catering holiday, but the produce was truly inspirational. We had no idea what we were going to cook with the bag fulls of stuff we left with each day, we bought it because it looked great, and we were never disatisfied. Don't miss it. It should be a tourist attraction. Merci et bon appetit

Just a terriffic area, not only the market bursting with the freshest fruit, vegetables, local fish, cheese, olives etc, but the whole district, with a huge array of artisan shops and quality fishmongers. There are little bars serving a glass of wine and three oysters,a caviar and smoked salmon shop, rotisseries, the famous Brun oyster restaurant where five people open oysters and prepare seafood on the street, all day and well into the night. There are wonderful wine shops, quality butchers, and the bread shops sell specialist Provencal bread. Little restaurants serve bouride, aioli, daube and other provencal specialities.. I stayed in the area, and could hardly drag myself away to sightsee such was the vibrancy and life in Forville, and the whole of the Cannes old town of Le Suquet .

What a disappointment! We were there a little late, around 1:30 or so after visiting the major sights in town and hoping to find lunch there. But the vendors were closing down shop already. We got to see a little bit of what's left but most of the stalls were packing up. Oh well...

First, if you drive there, don't bother to try to find a parking spot. Go straight to the municipal Forville Parking. It is cheap and you always find parking. Then, you will dive into the local crowd shopping, everyday but Monday, for fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, fishes (before 9 am if you want to have a larger choice), and all the meat, patés, cheese and sausages that the French adore! You can buy from any stands, they are all good. On Sundays, the farmers themselves go "down" to Forville to sell their own products. It is fun, colorful, noisy and people are very nice. Bring cash, not many accept credit cards. Don't worry, this market is cheap as compared to regular food stores. Bring also your own shopping bags. You will need them when you leave the market with food for a week!
Before going back to your car, stop for a drink at the Bar La Terrasse and buy a French baguette at the bakery Moulin de Païou. You will not regret it!!

Marche Forville isn't just an attraction, it is an entertaining way to get your produce and other groceries if you are staying in our around Cannes. We were lucky to be staying in Theoule last month--just a stone's throw away from Cannes and the Marche Forville.
Having been at various outdoor markets in Paris, as well as when I lived in NYC, I can tell you--there's nothin' like this place!
Even though it is technically outdoors, it is situated within the confines of an open-air structure. With it's many archways it is airy and colorful.
You can get all sorts of fish, bread, pork products, sauccion, legumes, herbs--oh yes, and beautiful herbs, vegetables, fruit, cheeses...and the list goes on. We even saw a vendor demonstrating knives outside of the Market.
I have to tell you, we got the best tapanade of all time at this market. We sampled quite a bit of different tapanades and ended up buying enough to last us for the week we were there. The vendors are all characters--and animated and fun at that!
Bring your camera when you come here because it is just such a colorful place and it lends itself to some really decent photo ops.
Also of note--there is an indoor parking lot directly across from the market. The first hour is FREE!!! So you CAN get a good deal in Cannes! Also, there are many patesseries in the area that all sell these great big meringues. Y.U.M.!
If you are in a vacation rental and are nearby, please--bring your market tote, a bunch of euros and work up an appetite to make a delicious dinner!

Well worth the visit if you are interested in fresh local produce. Be aware that it becomes a flea market on Mondays. This is different to the flea market held on Saturdays and Sundays held along Les allés de la Liberté Charles de Gaulle and the Promenade de la Pantiero.

For anyone who likes to browse around food or antiques stands, there isn't much in the world that beats a market in France, and Forville is a classic. If you are a foody, or like to venture out to flee markets and such places, you cannot come to Cannes and not go to the Foreville Market.
Opened every day, I think, it is just awesome. You can browse through an amazing assortment of fresh vegetables, meats of all kinds (fresh and cured), and, the most important for the area (in my opinion), the freshest fish around!
Walking around, I so wished I still lived in Cannes and could shop there a few times a week. I saw a stand selling nothing but wild mushrooms, Chanterelles, Morels, and many other varieties... I could almost taste the wild mushroom omelet I could whip out with those!!
On non-food market days, you can check out the "flee-market", and that description certainly does not do it justice. Again, anything from old plates, books, cutlery, fine china, and much much more.
Do yourself a favor, take a couple of hours, take your time, smell the air, enjoy... then go have lunch in one of the many restaurants around that get their produce, meat, and fish from the market (I recommend Le Bistrot Gourmand).
This is a huge part of what Provence is all about. There is another market in town, the "Marché Gambetta, but it is much smaller than Foreville, and the surrounding area is not as nice, so make sure you don't confuse the two. Enjoy!

We went here to visit and maybe buy some fruit and we ended with fruit, vegetables, cheese, salami, bread, olives.....and more.
Everything is so delicious, the smell is amazing and you can try out so so much.
We canceled lunch and just got everything we wanted from the market, found a bench at the marina and snacked our way through all of it.
Great visit, would do that again and again!

The Forville market is given over to antiques on Mondays.
I was hoping for amazing bargains, but the place was full of knowledgeable dealers, so no joy for me!
However, there were some very interesting stalls, including one for trais (three LMS O gauge engines at about £100 each) and a nautical one with old and modern sextants at up to £200

Bonjour, annieroux.

I will be on a cruise ship. Are there places near the market that I could ship purchases back to the USA?
Written 25 April 2017
There is a Post Office that is only a few blocks away, that provides ready to send boxes, both domestic and international, but as you know, postal rates are often more than the value of the merchandise one wants to send, so carry stuff home with you when you can. As I don't know where your cruise finishes, I don't know the advisability of taking stuff with you and posting it later from elsewhere.
