There are quite a few stairs to reach the entrance of the church from the Place des Palace - the cobbled square in front of the church and Popes' Palace. The sculpture of Christ on the cross surrounded by a few of His fellow mourners has a prominent place on the spacious entrance to the church. However, the golden Madonna on the church tower, very visible from afar, is more of a marker for the church. The white interior is quite simple as is the altar. The side chapel with Benedict XII's tomb is Baroque and dark. I just needed time for a few photos inside. There were no beautiful sculptures around the church entrance - just a covered porch in Romanesque style. Any wall frescoes seen were not memorable. Probably the exterior of the church is the most photographed.

Certainly not the most beautiful cathedral I have visited. The interior is not that interesting but was a nice place to sit down and rest from the heat outside. Adjacent to Palace of Popes and easy to think it is one of the same. Free to enter, also on route to the gardens
