As we travel through Europe putting the puzzle of religious scope & power together this is a good piece to explore. The building itself is the attraction & they have done a very good job of filling in the empty space with good audio information....More

Tour of gardens gives good views overlooking Rhone River valley, and tour inside exposes one to the history of Popes in Avignon and of the competing popes here and in Rome.

Visiting the Pope's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is breathing history in every room you step into. Different architecture styles are mixed since the different parts of it were added over time, every time a new pope took office. Get the audio-guide, and take...More

Impressive from the outside but disappointing inside. The building was used as a barracks in the 19th century leaving it without much of its grandeur. Fairly well provided with English translations of the literature.

This is so with a visit to view this wonderful historic building. It is certainly a centre piece of Avignon. However, it is not great for very young children and at times gets crowded with tour groups. Do try to explore every space within the...More

As a museum professional I give a big thumbs up to this site, which helped define Avignon's place in the world at a critical period in French history. You should allow a couple hours for the tour, and by all means take advantage of the...More

Extensive site. Good audio commentary although there is information in various languages in each room. Ticket covers Pont d'Avignon as well. At least one hour visit; can be longer depends on level of interest in the detail.

We loved the old town of Avignon. Try to stay within the wall and immerse yourself in the history and culture of this great old city. You can walk from the old train station across the street and enter the old city and never need...More

Easy. You would get near the Pont d Avignon and if you go to the bridge information shop you can buy a ticket to go on the bridge and straight into the Palais. Enjoy.
