Exhibition from 7 October 2017 to 2 April 2018 : La Vie Simple - Simplement la Vie / Songs of Alienation Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11am to 6pm. Last admissions 45 minutes before closing. Vincent van Gogh is a pivotal figure in the art of the 20th century. His oeuvre continues to influence artists and exert an unprecedented magnetism upon the public right up to the present. It was in Arles that Van Gogh produced - within the space of just 15 months between February 1988 and May 1888 - his finest masterpieces. Inaugurated in April 2014, the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles pays due homage to the work of Van Gogh while at the same time exploring his impact upon art today. This relationship with contemporary art was enshrined within the principles of the Fondation right from its conception. By presenting the painting of the Dutch master in the context of works by contemporary artists, the Fondation aims to stimulate a fruitful dialogue centred on interrogation and reflection.

Set in a modern multi-storey building with white walls this collection consisted of pre-impressionists through to late 20th century works. It tries to bring together the style of Van Gogh and his influence. It is only partially successful in this respect although the exhibition tries...More

I knew it wasn't a gallery devoted to Van Gogh, but I was still rather disappointed. There are some Van Gogh paintings and others by a variety of artists who have supposed to have been influenced by him although this was tenuous and pretty obscure...More

They always have a great exhibition whenever we visit. This time they had a great collection of work by Van Gogh, 1970's work by Picasso, some paintings by Giorgio di Chirico and an extensive collection of work by Paul Nash. The gallery always seems tranquil...More

Always an interesting exhibition on. Whilst there is some work by Van Gogh it is usually shown in relation to other artists. Great None the less.

We were pleased that there were 8 original Van Gogh paintings at the beginning of the exhibits. The rest of the paintings are by other artists throughout many years. It was interesting and very enjoyable. Well worth the couple of hours we spent there.

Despite having very few Van Gogh paintings, the Fondation's mission is to explore the works of artists having some links to Vincent. Currently they have an exhibit "Soleil Chaud, Soleil Tardif" linking, among others, Picasso and Van Gogh. Most interesting were about 30 works by...More
