There are some truly impressive features to this airy museum - most notably the excavated Roman boat, as well as impressive mosaics. One gains insight into the importance of the trading role that Arles played in the Roman empire which provides valuable context before exploring the inner-city. But there is limited signage for anyone not literate in French and it... More

This museum was one of the highlights of my trip. It explores the history or the city of Arles with an emphasis on its Roman heritage. It houses the remains of a 2000 year old barge that was used to haul limestone to Arles, models of what the ancient sites probably looked like at the time, tons of amphorae, sarcophagi,... More

We were tired and thought that a quick tour of the museum would be just the thing to perk us up. The "blue museum" as the locals call it, has a great collection of ancient art. The jewel in the crown is the restored barge from the Rhone River. Watch the film, it is so worth the 20 minutes. (And... More

This museum was much greater than I expected. It is composed of great historical treasures that truly highlight the stories behind the city. This experience really puts the history and achievements of Arles into perspective. Also, the video about the boat preservation is a must watch--- it tells the museums story beautifully.

This Museum has risen in prestige due to the archeological discoveries of ancient Rome found a short distance from the museum in the Rhone River. If you enjoy reliving the past and enjoy learning about past civilizations -- Greek and Roman in particular -- this museum is a must see when in France. If you visit Arles, you must go... More

We found this at the end of a great day in Arles and it proved to be a gem. It is so spacious that its many exhibits are shown in the very best of lights. Explanations are clear and informative. Some kind of cafe would be a useful addition

We travelled to Arles mainly to see the Roman barge and this museum provided a much greater experience than we had expected. The layout is beautifully designed to explain the chronology of the local geographic area. Earliest artifacts include ancient arrowheads, followed by amazing finds from the Rhone, most importantly the barge. It is well worth allowing 20 minutes extra... More

We spent a fabulous day in Arles and used our pass to its full potential. We had decided to spend a few hours here as the reviews were so good. We walked from Arles centre (20 minutes) and were very disappointed that it was not open at all on Tuesday. The man at the museum asked if we were informed... More

A moderate walk on the outskirts of Arles, it is worth a visit. Of particularly interest are the mosaics, the bust of Caesar and the Roman barge.

We spent a leisurely couple of hours at this lovely museum along the River Rhone just outside the town. There's not a lot in English, but enough that you get the drift. The restored Roman shipwreck on display was quite impressive as was the movie about it which is in French with English subtitles. Parking is easy and free. We... More
