- Melanie H25 contributionsNice day outA good visit, nice to look around. Easy to find and included within the price of the ticket to the Granet xxe. Interesting to see the paintings but disappointed we couldn't see the cezanneVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023
- donnaNew York City, New York2 contributionsA very fine museum in two partsThis museum has two locations within walking distance of each other in Aix. The first is the museum with various collections going back to the antiquities up to the Impressionists and Post Impressionists. It’s a lovely museum but it is the Jean Planque collection in a small chapel that is the most captivating. A buyer for a Swiss gallery, Planque developed friendships with numerous artists and began his own art collection. A foundation was formed to keep his artwork together after his death and is on a 15 renewable loan to the Granet. It is staggering to see what a man with limited means could amass through his vision and the force of his personality.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 June 2024
- Bernie SBelfast, United Kingdom780 contributionsSurprise to see the contentsLovely museum with really interesting exhibits - originals of Cezanne and Picasso as well as other masterpieces. Very interesting archaeological material from pre Christian sites. Nice little courtyard to rest in after the visitVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 June 2024
- Jim WSindelfingen, Germany8,621 contributionsImpressive Museum With Quite The CollectionMy wife and I were blown away by this museum. Although smaller than some of the massive art museums like the Prado or Louvre, this museum houses an amazing collection of paintings and sculptures. In about two hours, you can tour this whole place learning along the way. From Rembrandt to Cézanne (and copies of his muse) to Granet for whom the museum is named, you will be enthralled. Do not miss this of visiting Aix-en-Provence!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 July 2024

There is an English guided tour on September 7. I’ve joined the English guided tour in August, the guide (Sarah) is exceptional, she has a lot of knowledge to share, and the exhibition is much more interesting with her explanations and highlights. Much recommended.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 August 2024

We attended a wedding at a gothic church that faces the same square. I visit museums in every city that I visit and decided this was the one to see. My mind was blown by the works that I was able to casually admire having recently lined up for hours to see similar works at the Philadelphia museum of art. Granted, this is Paul Cezanne's city so I expected to see some great works, the fact that I did not have to fight to get an unobstructed view gave me joy.

Unmissable on a tour in Cezanne's footsteps in Aix en Provence. His works were interesting, but the rest of the collection also proved to be a surprise. The entrance ticket has a modest price of 6.50 euros each plus 3.50 if you want the audio guide. The ticket includes a visit to the adjacent chapel.

This museum has a small but widely varied selection of art from across many periods. I also happened to visit during their Egyptian temporary exhibit, which was excellent – very informative, and with many striking pieces. It was also fun to look for all the pieces of Granet himself – whether of him or by him.

Superb David Hockney exhibition in Musée Granet - lovely, characterful and well-laid out spaces in the museum itself. Very pleasant and helpful experience at the ticketing booth. However, one member of the museum staff needs extra training. I shall be making a formal complaint. It is disrespectful and unprofessional to shout to a visitor, "You are mad" and accompany this with other rudeness of manner. Perhaps the woman in question was having a bad day, but loud and aggressive reprimands for honest mistakes are unacceptable.

A beautifully presented collection of interesting artefacts arranged in a lovely setting. A bonus is the admission to the annex gallery that has a surprising collection of stunning art by Picasso, Klee and many others. Stunning to see these iconic pieces in such a sympathetic and peaceful setting.

This museum is on two sites. We preferred the chapel site where there is a fantastic collection of paintings, including mainly works from the 20th century. They were collected by Jean Planque who knew many of the great artists of his time. The other site is ok but the standard is not as good.

I wasn't really aware of Granet as an artist before, but I very much enjoyed this collection. He was both talented and prodigious, creating many attractive little sketches and some large complex works. worth seeing, especially as the ticket includes entry to modern art collection in the chapelle des innocents: small but well selected

Spent an hour here on our Cezanne day. After visiting his studio and the places in town connected with him, it was great to come and see a few of his paintings.
The museum is small but there is a terrific collection of antiquities, medieval and classical works.
The museum is in the old town and in a lovely area.
