The trip to see Belleau Wood is a 3 part one. One was the Memorial, one was the cemetery and visitors center, and lastly the fountain which is not easy to find but well worth the search. All 3 sites required a short drive and...More

After visiting the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, we drove a short distance to see the WWI Marine Memorial and to walk through part of this historic battle site. It had rained so we had to deal with a little mud on the path but we did...More

A intersting place for its history, also enjoyed walking through the woods seeing both traces of the past and nature claiming back its beauty and peace.

Take a self-guided walk through here. Plaques in the ground at the beginning tell the major parts of this battle of WWI. Very meaningful. Today it is a peaceful tree-filled area/forest. Hard to imagine the chaos and killing that took place here.

The purpose of our trip was to visit WWI sites with American involvement. You can also see our review of visiting Verdun with Ingrid Ferrand as guide (she's wonderful). It's important, we believe, to read some history ahead of time to fully appreciate the site....More

I am sure that it is an important place for US Marines, but for other people it is just a place in the woods with some random memorabilia. My advice, don’t go there. The nearby Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial is well worth the visit.

As a US Marine, this opened my eyes to events that is always spoken of. It put me in a place where I wanted to try and visualize what the Marines before went through.

Belleau Woods is legendary in Marine Corps history. The woods and fields that the United States first entered World War 1 is well preserved. Like most WW1 battles, the scope is immense and there is little interpretation as far as trails go--besides one near the...More

Belleau Wood should be seen by every American. Very solemn and respectful of the great history that took place here. The courage and tenacity of the United States Marines are obvious on the battlefield, which still has the trenches and shell craters from 1918. The...More

For all of you former and active Marines put this on your bucket list. A very well done cemetery and monument. There are still trenches, fox holes and such after 99 years. A very emotional experience for this Vietnam vet in 1/5/1.

I would suggest renting a car and driver. You can take the train to Chateau-Thierry and have a car pick you up there. If you are brave enough, you can rent a car there instead but I am not comfortable driving in foreign... More
