Agree with most comments on here, the chateau is very impressive and has great views, but they could do a lot more to curate it, expand the amount of indoor space open to view, and decorate the inside with artwork.

Great little castle overlooking Saumur, well worth climbing the path to visit. It is also worth having the free English tour to get all the historical background. Don't expect a full-on National Trust experience, but it is worth going to!

Lovely chateau overlooking the Loire. Allow at least three hours including a guided tour. There is a excellent presentation with an English translation (helpful for those who find their French rusty!)

We were in Saumur when the north wall of the Chateau collapsed in 2001 and recent visits have been accompanied by restricted opening and lots of scaffolding to mar the wonderful views. Now the Chateau is unencumbered by scaffolding and is back to its former...More

Stunning chateau as seen from below. Good views of the Loire and city from the ramparts. Simple self guided tour showed main features and within was a museum collection from other places. Equine museum next door was interesting.

Walking distance from hotel - right in city centre. Not too expensive at 7 euros each. Looks lovely from the river - took loads of photos.

Thought we would see so much more of the castle but only a few rooms on the first floor, and basement. Some art for sale and French plate work but I guess the view went some way to dealing with the disappointment. Not sure it...More
