Nantes is the birthplace of Jules Verne. Even the main attractions of Nantes, Les Machines de L'ile and the Carrousel des Mondes Marins, are inspired by the books of this fantastic writer. However, this museum is very small, very old-fashioned and adds almost nothing to your city trip to Nantes.

Delighted to enjoy exhibits of photos and models that bring out Jules Verne's fabulous imagination and influence, even on the cinema!

It is exciting to walk where the father of science fiction spent his childhood and the literary scene of Nantes at this time was a fertile ground for the future literary star. This museum lends more understanding about how this prolific author's talent was nurtured in the midst of an outstanding family as he was growing up on the Loire... More

After walking up the steep hill, we were disappointed to find the museum closed for lunch -check times before you go. Set in a house on several levels, overlooking the river, there are many artefacts about the life of Jules Verne. If you are very keen on the man, then do go.

Jules Verne hailed from Nantes so if you are interested in the author or his works this will be of interest to you. The museum is on three floors with plenty of interesting artefacts from Verne's life. As other reviewers have stated there is some information in English but not everything is translated and the documentary screenings are not subtitled.... More

I am not a a mad keen JV fan so for me this was an ok place and not too expensive to visit. Lots of information in English and was interesting to see notes he kept while planning some of his stories. It's an uphill walk to get there but quite pleasant and the views are good.

The life and works of a great author. The number of books printed is overwhelming. It was sad to learn that his wife was so unhappy.

Probably best for Jules Verne fans. Reasonable entry price (3 Euro for adults and 1.50 discounted). Closed at lunch time. Very little explanation in English. Some of his hand written manuscripts were on display. It is a long and not very scenic walk from the city centre and the last section is uphill. There is a little park before you... More

The Jules Verne de Nantes museum is all in French and its quite a bit of reading. There were but a handful of English notes. I am not terribly familiar with Mr.Verne's works but after a quick visit, I'll be reading some of his tales. You need about 30 -60 min here. My visit was a fast one. The museum... More
