The Machines de l’Ile is an artistic and a tourist project. It is a blend of the invented worlds of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci, and the industrial history of Nantes, on an exceptional site in the former shipyards. A ride on the 12-meter tall Great Elephant, climb aboard the Marine Worlds Carrousel of 27 moving sea creatures or the Heron Tree to fly over the hanging gardens.

Well worth visiting - the people of Nantes certainly know how to astonish and amaze. I would recommend that anyone contemplating a visit allows sufficient time because this is certainly not a place that can be absorbed with a simply viewing - there is so much to see, to experience, to do, and to ask about.

I definitely recommend this in the weekend, in a Sunday to be more precise. The elephant is open to the public and it's interesting to see how it works when it's walking. Be careful with opening times.

An unusual trip in a mechanical elephant, journey was 30 minutes and travelled approximately 1 km. Make sure you pre-book online at least 2 days in advance. The queues build up exceptionally quick and spaces are limited

This place is a Magical Steampunk Wonderland, where we get to see the genius French creative mind at work in the creation of these quirky machines . Jules Verne would even be blown away. Never have seen the likes of this in the USA. A Must see!

We went to this place when we were on holiday the boys loved it. Crazy merry go round and fantastic metal robotics. Parking a motorhome can be tricky and be trying to figure out the charges was a task, but 2 french guys tried to explain to me that I only had to pay up to 12 midday which saved... More

Les Machines de L'ile are a bunch of animal shaped robots. Said like that it sounds boring and uninteresting but the reality exceeds the expectations. Housed in the hold hangars of the ancient Nantes shipyard, this mechanical heaven is, according to its creators, a mix of the Jules Verne fictional universe, the mechanical creations of Leonardo Da Vinci and the... The large halls of the former shipyard. Some crazy people decided to transfom them in a place where to built huge automats of all sorts. The most popular is the "elephant" 10 meter high on which people can ride in the Streets. For me, it is most emotional, as this is where I started my profesional life in 1971 as... More

It is a very nice place, we did not enter as we arrived in the morning and it was closed. Open hour 14h, perfect for late visit. It is very interesting for the kids, and very entertained. Do not miss it if you are in Nantes.
