If you don't have time to go here, you're not missing much. Climbing the steps to the top isn't as rewarding as one might think - you can't see anything from the top floor. As for the rest, there is a window in each of the other two floors from which you can sort of see Rouen.

My husband and I visited the Tour Jeanne d'Arc in Rouen as part of our honeymoon in June 2011. We took the SNCF train from Paris, and I believe the trip was just over an hour. The tower, just south of the train station, was easily accessible by foot. We paid a nominal fee to enter the self-guided tour through the tower which was set up like a museum in the first couple of floors.
Jeanne d'Arc has always been a role model for me, and it was so emotional for me to be in the same tower that Joan was kept in for the last few months of her life. I walked the same winding stone staircase that she did, and was able to see the wooden struts of the top of the tower that she likely gazed at.
The museum offered so much information in both English and French; miniture model of Rouen showing camps of troops, statues of Joan, many maps, portraits, a copy of the manuscript of Joan's trial . . . .so much more. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

As soon as you walk out from the train station, this tower is on the left about 500 meters from the train station. The tower is what is left from a castle and where Joan of Arc was imprisoned. We didn’t really visit inside as there was construction works by the side of the tower.
Strangely the next day on our walk back to the train station, our baby’s balloon snapped out from the Pram and it floated high up into the sky and fell down exactly where the tower was. Perhaps a fitting homage to the tower where young Joan was imprisoned.

The tower is impressive even though it is a copy, Joan of Arc didn't actually stay in this one. If you're planning on going here bear in mind that it is 122 steps to the top floor of the tower. If you're in a wheelchair forget it and if you're not very fit or past your prime years this is going to be a struggle. One thing that I did find strange is that the spiral staircase wound anti-clockwise upward - most historians will tell you that the reason spiral staircases go clockwise is because if you are right handed it is hard to swing a sword and fight someone higher up the stairs than you, whereas they can quite merrily swing away at you as they have all the room

My wife and I were surprised that this wonderful historical site is free. This tower (known as “Le Donjon” to the French) is the sole remnant of a castle built here by French King Philippe starting in 1204 and completed in 1210. It’s first floor (second floor if you are from the US) has a small but well presented exhibit about what it was like to have lived in the castle during the 13th century. The second floor (3rd in US) has information about the wealthier occupants of the castle. Outside you can see the remnants of the moat which surrounded the castle and helped protect it. Warning: LOTS OF STAIRS and no elevator. Also no photos inside. Very worthwhile to visit!

It may not seem like much, but the fact that you are able to stand in the spot where a young Saint spent her final days before being burned at the stake is pretty unbeleiveable.

History keeps on giving just seeing this and touching the walls gave me a shiver. The fact this was right outside my hotel room was a bonus.

but still worth walking up to! I went to the webpage tourjoannedarc.fr and was redirected to a museums of rouen page and it wasn't listed.

I had a morning stroll around Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen and came across this tower when you go further behind. It was closed as it opens in the afternoon. I intend to visit the interior when I have a chance to go back to Rouen. Nevertheless, it was still nice to have a glimpse of this impressive Tower where Joan of Arc was imprisoned.

This tower is located right outside the train station and easy to miss if not paying attention. Not sure if you can tour the inside but just knowing the sort of tragedies that happened here are enough to make you pause and relish the moment.
