    Stunning Impressionist room
A beautiful building and staffed by friendly and helpful people. The paintings were well exhibited and I was especially stunned by the impressionist rooms - one section almost appeared that the paintings were back-lit! Anyone who has never quite grasped the importance of light to Impressionism would certainly “get it” from visiting this gallery.

    Unexpected find
We didn't get there until 5:15 pm after wandering around the city lost. Too bad, as it closed at 6 pm. I dashed from one room to another looking for the Impressionists, asking each guide "ou et la salle du Monet"? As this is a free museum with lots of French art over many centuries (and no crowds), well worth including this in your planning for visiting the city.

    Excellent regional art museum
We visited the museum twice to take in the surprisingly extensive collection. We especially liked the works by Caravaggio, Delacroix, Renoir and of course Monet. It is located in an impressive building, renovated a few years ago, near several other museums.

Exceptional museum. Hidden gem that's a must visit.
The museum is free and has a great collection that very much surprised us. If you visit the galleries chronologically, it begins a bit slowly. There is a wonderful Caravaggio and a great Van Dyke but the strength begins in the 19th century... beautiful Delacroix and a large Gericault group are followed by a superb impressionist collection is led by Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley (more than a dozen great paintings by him) and much more. Don't miss the modernists on left side of the museum.. DuChamp, Modigiani, Duchamp-Villon, Valadon lead the parade but there is much much more. Remarkable group of art that surprises with its depth after 1800.

    A Top Attraction in Rouen
This was an excellent old style art gallery. It featured classical art with a range of paintings and sculpture. I found the works of the Impressionists to be of particular interest. The gallery is located in a lovely old building. Well worth a visit.

Superb gallery with masterpieces from a wide range of periods. Couldn’t believe it was free. We’ll arranged and documented.

While the museum was a wonderful experience, it would have helped if there was an English commentary that joined the French accompanying the works of art. You could download a guide on your phone, but it’s awkward to use.

It has a sizeable permanent collection spread across two large floors. An extensive range from medieval through to twentieth century. The obvious highlights were the two caravaggios and the collection of impressionist art. Apart from Pissarro, Monet and Sisley there were some stand out works from the lesser known impressionist artists. It is an overall extensive collection that needs up to a couple of hours to do justice to.

I had just been to Giverney for a day of Monet, so I was excited to visit this museum and see a few more works by Monet and his contemporaries, which seemed well organized. Lots of earlier works from French, Dutch, and Italian artists, and many of the rooms had an unexpected item on display, such as a model of a cathedral and a traveling "cabin" that a princess sat in while her subjects carried her around. The decoration on it was exquisite. I was admitted to the museum for free, but I'm not sure why. It was about 4:30 when I arrived and the museum closes at 6, so perhaps people are given free admittance near the end of the day? My only disappointment was that no information was provided in English. If you don't read French, you won't learn anything about the works, although you can still take in the beauty and emotional aspects of the objects. The only signage in in English were cards saying not to sit on the antique chairs or to touch certain objects. The staff was very friendly, and one of the guards directed me to the objects I most wanted to see because my time at the museum was limited.
