The area is very beautiful. A classical square lined with a number of old buildings. In the middle there is something which you can not really identify. We went in and found a very contemporary church of some sort. Beautiful in its own way, but a bit of a clash with the rest of the area.
From the outside you get even more confused because you do not really know what is the beginning, or the end or if there even is one.
This is supposedly where Jeanne d’Arc saw the end of her days, so all in all a sad place. But to me, she is worth something better.

Impressive from the outside. The place Jeanne was burned is directly in front. Unfortunately not open on this Monday at around 11 am.
Would also be better if the marker for Jeanne is bigger. A must if in Rouen just to see the modern church and cross outside.

Far more interesting inside than out. In fact with all the stained glass which is better viewed from inside it is quite beautiful. Free entry. Worth a visit if nearby.

A very important place in Rouen and now site of a church, market and plenty of bars, restaurants and assorted shops. The design is as strange as the other reviews suggest. Just up the road is the rather famous clock.

You've walked along the Rue de Horloge from Rouen Cathedral to arrive at La Place Vieux Marche (Old Market Square) where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake for heresy. Here also, a church has been built to her memory and it will certainly impact on your memory as its design plays with your mind. Its shape is most certainly not usual for a church but what does it remind you of? A witches hat? Or a dragon with teeth, scaly skin and great talons on its claws? The stained glass windows however are clearly representative of the flames of the burning pyre. The design and imagery is poignant and also awesome.

In remembering of .joan of Arc. This is where she was burnt at te stake by the English during the 100 year war. She was 19 years old when she died. She was made a saint 500 years later

Le Bucher de Jeanne d'Arc is located close Jeanne d'Arc church, in la Place Vieux Marché (Old Market Square). You can see it in the old town of Rouen, an important city in Normandie region, in the North part of France. If you walk around the square, I recommend you see it, if not, it is not necessary.

If you are doing a self guided walking tour of Rouen, be especially mindful to look fir this site when visting la,Place to Virus Marché where there is a coveted fish and produce market. This is the site of where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431 as the plaque in my photo shows.

We learnt about Joan of Arc during history lessons in school and I’ve always felt a fascination of this young girl who helped save France and burned at the stake after being accused as a witch.
So many years has passed since that history lesson and I’m finally here in Rouen to visit the place that she was burned at the stake and where a church has been built to honour her.
A tall cross marks where she was burnt.
