Waited for reopening after lunch closure...entered and was barely acknowledged by woman sitting in corner...looked around the large room with examples of lace. I went over to where the employee was sitting and looking at threads. Thinking she would begin a demonstration, I waited observing the work around her work station. She seemed rather annoyed by my presence. I left...disappointed... More

I am in awe of these ladies, their lace work is exquisite. The tradition of lace making continues under their nimble fingers.

This group of folks is preserving an important art form, and their products are beautiful. There is one room and some fine examples to look at. There is no interaction or explanation, but you can watch them work. When we visited there were 3 women working. Interesting for a quick visit, but only if you really love lace.

The women who work here allowed us to watch them create beautiful lace work. They produced handmade lace work like bookmarks, earrings, pin flowers, lace scarves and shawls among other pieces. The attention to detail was amazing.

Everything in the little town of Bayeux is worth seeing, The Bayeux Tapestry, amazing. The Lace that is exhibited is a credit to the makers and it is shown in lots of places around town, Teacher of the Bayeux stitch is a most rewarding experience for all hand stitchers. Food is soo.. good in all the little cafes we went... More

Love the skill, craft manship and artistry involved in the bobbin lace making. From the concept, pattern making to the skill of the lacemakers... outstanding and very informative.

I am not crazy about lace, but my appreciation for it grew by orders of magnitude when I saw how it was made. In an age where cheap and fast is often prized over beauty and craftsmanship! the lace conservatory preserves the latter. It was especially heartening to see a young woman in there learning the craft. It's worth a... More

Since I work at a fabric store, I was looking forward to seeing the work that these ladies do compared to the mechanically produced lace we sell where I'm employed. It's a very small workshop/conservatory space, but that makes their handiwork so much more intimate. The lady working when I visited was very quiet, but I understood that she needed... More

I happened on this, and I'm a fiber person so I ducked in. There were three ladies in there working (well, one of them was). There are some pieces for sale but beyond a Bonjour when I entered I was not spoken to. Not much to see really.

I had looked forward to visiting the Lace Conservatory in Bayeux, but I was quite disappointed. The lace and the process of making it are fascinating, but this is not the place to learn about it. Two students and a teacher were in the shop; none seemed interested in explaining anything and no photos are allowed, as I was reminded... More
