We were here for a couple hours on our visit to Lille, and it was well worth it. The museum itself is quite beautiful, and we loved the enormous modernist hanging sculptures in the entry. There were not a lot of "masterpieces" here, yet they had some standouts by Bruegel, Bosch, Picasso and others. There were modernist pieces interspersed with... More

I dropped a star here, because I didn't manage to find my way to the sculpture collection. Not sure if that was a result of the current refurbishment or me being ditzy. There is an excellent and varied collection of work on display here. Picasso, Van Gogh, Goya, Velazquez, Reubens, Monet, most of the big names. I got slightly puzzled... More

Plenty to see as you wander around this beautiful space. Make sure you ask for an audio guide before you set off so you get the most out of the museum. Entry is free unless you want to go upstairs to the galleries. With our eurostar ticket we go a deal - buy one entry to the museum and 1... More

Not as good as the guide book suggested - a few clear masterpieces by eg Rubens, Brueghel, but a lot of inferior works including by well-known painters. A good gallery space however and an outstanding but simple cafe.

As a wet weather activity in Lille this is very worthwhile doing with some fine paintings through the ages. Very Good for an hour or two.

This museum is located in an interesting building, though I forgot to ask about its history. The layout is simple, with a central round square, and around it one ring of halls. To me the most impressive part is the hall on the left, with three large paintings, about the abdication of emperor Charles V, the plague in Tournai, and... More

This is a large collection of art and instead of becoming overwhelmed, we downloaded their App which gave us fascinating audio descriptions of some of their 'favourites'. It meant that we got so much more out of the works that we viewed and stopped at many that we would otherwise have passed by. There is a lot of building work... More

The relief maps in the basement were for me the most impressive thing there. A must if you're interested in maps at all.

Looked like a lovely building behind the scaffolding, which was a shame. Collection is eclectic and spread out - could do with better signage. We didn't opt for the audio tour, but probably should have - especially for the artefacts below ground. Happy to see a couple of Monets on the way round. The empty atrium seemed a waste of... More
