To be fair, my visit was not helped by the fact that the museum claimed to open after lunch at 2pm, but I will still left standing outside a locked gate on a slightly cold and dreary day at nearly 20 past. Grumble over. To get the most out of this museum, I think you need to be fairly clued... More

A little out of the way from the main streets of Old Lille, it was worth a short walk to see the birthplace and well preserved home of Charles de Gaulle. Audio guides and laminated paper info in several languages. Spent a nice hour there on a rainy Sunday and enjoyed it. When in Lille, I recommend this stop.

This is a very nice museum and when walking through the house/rooms you can still imagine how life was at that time. They have audio guides and you can walk around on your own, very convenient. The entrance fee is really not high. This museum is worth to visit.

The rooms are almost as they were left. It was interesting to see how they would have lived in those days and the English translation was great - so many attractions did not have English translation, but we tried to decipher some words (rightly or wrongly!!). Nice to visit on a rainy day.

If you're looking to explore Lille's old town, you might see the childhood home of Charles de Gaulle signposted - we wandered through the streets to see it, but were expecting a plaque outside rather than the opportunity to go inside. The house - more a collection of buildings - is part self-guided tour, part museum. The house in itself... More

A must see in Lille if you are interested in modern history. It's a classic French house for the period, in a nice part of town and very reasonable entry fee, which includes both a written and visual guide. Lille is a fantastic city and I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely go again.

This is well worth a visit as it is preserved in its original state and is therefore interesting as an example of a house of its time as much as the fact that de Gaulle's family lived there. For example the tiny privy built into the staircase and the lovely conservatory as well as the way all the rooms open... More

T!his house is worth a visit to Lille (one hour by train from Paris "gare du Nord".) It is a good example of a 19th centurry French upper middle class home. And it is so moving to see Gl de Gaulle's tiny craddle and christening gown

Excellent well presented house steeped in French history and the life of Charles de Gaulle. It was fascinating to see where Charles de Gaulle was born and spent most of his childhood. Audio guide is a must for this museum to get the most out of it.

I was extremely excited to go to this museum, to visit the birthplace and home of the famous Frenchman, Charles De Gaulle. However, this museum did not live up to my expectations. The information surrounding the museum could have been a lot better presented and the welcome received by the staff could have been, too. The audio guide was very,... More
