But be informed: it's hard to get into an exposition without French knowledge. So I couldn't recommend this place for international tourist, you only can get insight or some impression of unclear quality. There is brilliant book store in this place, but again: everything in...More

Visited this museum hoping to see some modern abstract art but did not really get what we came for. Glad it was free the day we visited.

Noted in my guide book as an interesting place to visit we spent an hour trying to find the place. Unfortunately all that was on offer was a free temporary exhibition and none of the of the permanent collection of modern art was any where...More

I'm glad that I didn't allow the one-star reviews to put me off visiting les Abattoirs. I found my visit to be enjoyable with several particularly interesting pieces on display. The facility covers four floors: the ground level, an upper level and two basement levels....More

Light airy space in this old abattoir, but the standard of art was very average. The whole first floor is taken up with video installation spaces, but sadly on this visit the works were all very similar.

It is a terrible museum. There are very few exhibitions, and most of them are just trash (literally).

The Abattoirs were created 1823 as beautiful brick buildings to slaughter and sell meat. This was abandoned in 1988 and the buildings were closed... At the end of the 1980's, these old, unused, deteriorating buildings were squatted by musicians and artists. They fixed up the...More

Great building! Modern art is often locate in venues with low ceilings and small rooms. This was fantastic! I felt as though I was in a movie set. (Who would have thought that a former slaughter house would be a highly attractive modern art venue?)...More
