Living in France for a year may be daunting, especially if your French is just so-so. But don't be deterred. This market is outstanding in all respects: large enough to have great diversity, small enough to get to know the shop owners, or feel overwhelmed by the size. The market is open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00am 12:30. Fresh fruits, vegetables, meats (chicken, duck, pork, beef, sausages) cheese, breads, seafood, wines, even prepared foods for take-awau -- a feast for the senses. Wander around and see what interests you. Favorite cheese shop: Deux Chauvane. The bread shop with the longest line is the best -- order a piece of their famous "cadanet" bread. YOu will also find your french getting better.

Top tip for Toulouse: Place Carmes is full of lovely little wine shops, cheese delis and this market which is topped off by a good value bistro serving fresh produce from the nearby stalls. Home-fries and a good wine list plus friendly waiting staff make it a great destination once you have done your shopping.

So during my trip to Toulouse with my mrs we visited this little market. We had quiet a surprise. It enriched the senses for me with different smells, tastes and colours. Amazing shades of every colour you can think of. There is Cheese, wine, fish, meat, chocolate and drinks stands as well as fruit and veg. It really is the whole package. We asked for samples and most vendors were more than willing to let us try before we buy. It is a busy bustling market and i would highly recommend a visit. If you do shop around before buying as some stalls are a lot more expensive than others.

Lovely market. I shopped at two stalls (both cheese sellers). One was excellent, reasonably priced and friendly. However, I was charged an exorbitant price for a packet of bio crisps at the other. Beware of buying goods, which are not labelled with a price. Tourists are easy pickings for profiteers. I should have refused to pay, but was feeling harassed by the aggressive seller.

One of the best we've been to in France. Beautiful fruit, veg, meat, bread, cheese and fish. Butchers tend to specialise ie beef, duck, pork, poultry and will cut and debone for you. So clean too.

An interesting market where you can buy all your fresh goods. Can be quite busy and pricey if you don't shop around for prices. Excellent baguettes at the bakery!

This is a fantastic market in the heart of Toulouse. I highly recommend you visit if you like food in any way! There is a large choice of all foods - fish, meats, cheese, desserts/sweets, breads, snacks bio food, you name it. Many locals shop here so it is not just for tourists. As with anywhere like this just be sure check the price before the pay.

The best place to get products from local producers. Ambiance is amazing, have a coffee just in front of the market!

Very cool place especially Dede & Cristel's organic produce stand. OMG the line is around the block to get q head of lettuce. But it's super high quality and they help you pick it out! Plus there's the olive oil and salt expert, two great cheese mongers and fantastic meats. A great experience if you like markets

The Cristal Market is closer to our apartment, so we go there almost daily for fruit and vegetables, but when we need to buy meats or fish, we walk further to the Carmes Market.
The market has a couple of fish stalls that have a wide variety of fish and seafood for sale. There are also several butcher's stalls, some of them specialising in one type of meat, e.g beef, lamb, chicken. In addition there is a bakers stall and a lovely cheese stall (called Betty). There are also some vegetables stands and a stall that sells salads and pre-cooked foods.
Definitely worth a visit if you are looking to buy meats, fish or cheese.
