I was impressed by the overall infrastructure of this vineyard and the determination that they have in trying to put out good Uruguayan wines but there are many flaws to the tour. The tour is not cheap for what you get (Garzon Reserva Tour) - US$36 for three standard wines and two lower level "reserva" wines. If you are an experienced wine tourer, you get much more experience in any vineyard of Mendoza, Spain or France....so much more that its almost unfair of me to make this comment.

The tour was incredibly disorganized, with too many people taking part. The guide did not have command of their audience and I basically learnt nothing from going around. The sampling was also minimal and the white and rosé wines could have been cooled more. The grounds have good infrastructure but the guides were completely inapt at showing off what the estate has. I have never been on such a disorganized tour of any vineyard in the world.

The wine store is nice and you can get Tax Free credits with your purchases. The restaurant is incredibly overprice (like absoultey everything in Punta Del Este or José Ignacio).

Lots of potential, just got to get some experienced people in there.

Over rated and a disappointing experience. Terrible value for money. The set menu options are poor and forces you to go to the highest price, in case you want to have beef. Even though you are in the vineyard that produces the wine, prices are way above reasonable. We ordered their top of the line red, and it was slightly above average. The day before we had a few bottles of the Bouza Monte vide eu , and I personally found it to be superior to Balasto.
Besides all that, 3 people in our party ordered the famous chicken (they don’t eat beef), which came raw inside, and the rice that comes with it, was cold. The complaint to the manager didn’t have much of an impact.
A quick apology and that was it. We paid the bill in full (not cheap at all) for a below average meal.
I would recommend a visit to the absolutely amazing facilities (the cement vats, casks and storage area are really phenomenal. This is by far one of the best in the world. And after that, go the the Mallman restaurant in the tiny village of Garson near by for a terrific meal.

My husband and I are big fans of wine, and Uruguayan wine for that matter.
During our holiday, we visited three wineries and Bodega Garzon was our least favourite (in terms of experience, not wine).

We booked Single vineyard tour which included a tour of the estate, tasting of 2 basic line wines and 3 single vineyard ones.
The tour started on the terrace, with amazing views of the estate, we then took a ride across the vineyard and finished in the tasting room. Final tasting was accompanied by charcuterie and olive oils.
What was disappointing was that the groups where big and information provided very basic, it felt just like a business, with little passion for their wines.

It is possible to additionally pay for tasting of their top Petit Clos wines (which we did) and enjoyed them on the terrace with amazing views.

Overall we really enjoyed the wines but had a mediocre experience overall.

As a Uruguayan expat, I have often bought Garzón wines due to their decent quality and good value. While vacationing in nearby José Ignacio, I thought I would pay the Bodega a visit. I've been to wineries in many countries and have never seen anything so absurdly pretentious, snobby and inhospitable, from the massive stone gate with a security guard (!) to the "reservations only" policy. This is so out of character for Uruguay it's embarrassing. ¡Qué locura! Do better, Garzón.

...........
I went with my 86-year-old mother from Montevideo, driving, to celebrate her birthday by visiting and having lunch at that place.
The thing is that when I arrived at the entrance, the doorman (or security guard) at the outside portal asked me if I had a reservation, and he explained, very correctly, that without a reservation I couldn't enter.
I admitted my mistake and explained that I didn't know, and asked if we could at least enter to briefly visit the place. The man was very kind and called the manager, explained my request, and in response the manager told him that without a reservation it was impossible to enter.
I have deleted Bodega Garzón from my list of places to recommend visiting in Uruguay.
You have to obey the rules, it's true, but in any company you have to have business acumen and empathy in every situation.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon spent with a highly knowledgeable guide. This is a sustainable vineyard which has won awards for sustainable wine production. For 800 Uruguayan dollars it was money well spent. Three wines tasted; one whits and two reds. If wanted you can do an estate tour to include olive oil tasting.

We live parttime in Montevideo and had experienced Bodega Bouza and Vina Eden. Vina Eden is nice, but we had a terrible experience at Bodega Bouza.

Bodega Garzon, was fabulous. Beautiful and secluded location, exquisite architecture and fabulous views over the countryside.

We stopped in without a reservation and they allowed us to enter the grounds and enjoy a glass of wine. It seems as though you must have a reservation to enter the property as there is a guardhouse.

We plan to return for lunch in a few months as the dining room was beautiful. .

If you do decide to go to Bodega Garzon, be sure and travel a bit farther up the road to the pueblo of Garzon.

Absolutely incredibly beautiful property. We did the single vineyard tour and Natalie was our guide. She was lovely providing information to us in English as well as Spanish. The only complaint I have is that for the single vineyard tour only half of the wines tasted are from the single vineyard line - the other three are reserves. You know this when booking but I’d like to try the full single vineyard line.

This winery is on the leading edge of production. We found it to be different from a lot of wineries we have visited in the past. If you are in the area you should take the tour and sample some of their wines.
