So I'm not gonna say that this is a "bad" cathedral, but it is easy to get the feeling that this might just be your average of a cathedral as the competition is so hard from other cathedrals in the rest of France. It is well worth a visit if you're in Montpellier, but there's no bells and whistles compared... More

We stumbled across this beautiful cathedral by accident whilst meandering around Montpellier. The external views of pillars and turrets are striking and inside its peaceful with wonderful sculptured stone. Outside there is a nice bar where you can sit in the sun drinking a cool beer and taking in this wonderful view. Put it on your "Must do " list... More

A Gothic cathedral with a great baroque organ. After a quick look round, I went back on Sunday morning to hear the wonderful organ and was not disappointed. We were treated to a great voluntary.

I was lucky enough on my first visit to Montpellier to magically come across this enormous cathedral from down a dark medieval street on a sunny day (see photo) I saw the beaming warmth of the cathedrals huge canopy first, wow! what is that...then the even bigger pillars opening up into a large cobbled square with what the cathedral makes... If you're into history and architecture this church is fascinating. The statues in the side altars are beautifully sculptured. It's a peaceful haven.

The sonneur up in the tower was a little eager to let everyone know what time it was all the time, no matter where in Montpellier you were, and especially if you were a block away.

I was looking forward to visit this cathedral, unfortunately it was closed, but I deeply enjoyed photographing the exterior. The towers are massive. It's difficult to cover the entire facade in one image.

Large well maintained sandstone structure with many exterior and interior points of interest - check it out - you will be a wee bit awestruck.

Pope Urban at one time was a student at the renowned Universite de Montpellier. In 1364 he directed that a monastery and church be built on this side. This building by 1536 had evolved into St. Pierre Cathedral. With its southern gothic style, massive footprint, and dominating portico (supported by two circular columns), this church looks more like medieval fortress... More
