What a fantastic place. We were only there for overnight so we didn't get to do and see everything but we had a fantastic evening dinner and did a little shopping before the shops closed and just walked the city.

OK, unless you're actually staying in the walled city, it is a bit of a hike but certainly worth every step. It is impossible to put the experience into words but it is simply amazing.

World class, huge fortified medieval city with massive walls, ramparts, turrets, and an ancient city within the walls. We walked around all the narrow cobbled streets and looked into lots of shops, and found a greet restaurant on a square for lunch. Has to be on the bucket list of world sites for any and everyone to visit. Excellent and... More

A very beautiful old town to visit. In the morning it is very busy with people shopping and visiting museums. At night it is even more beautiful as it is very quiet and people can go to eat at all sorts of restaurants. Magical.

Visited on a very cold day in December, but we spent several hours touring around all the beautiful old buildings. Keep your eyes up on the rooves to see all the gargoyles dotted around the medieval town.

Yes, there are too many tourists in the summer, and there's a shocking number of inappropriate shops (franchise ice cream, etc), but the place has been so carefully restored and rebuilt, it is very much worthwhile. There are plenty of lanes where you will escape the madness, and the back ramparts at sunset were extraordinarily beautiful.

If you are visiting Toulouse, Carcassonne is a great day trip. We visited during our honeymoon in July 2014 and it was a very pleasant, picturesque place. It's a great example of Medieval architecture and you really get a feel for what it would have been like to live there. Get the audio-guide when you purchase your tickets. It's totally... More

Both my husband and I loved this lovely city: the May afternoon we arrived was raining heavily and cold, the next day it turned sunny and warm. We joined a paid tour, following our tour guide learned more about the Castles, the Crusade, the cathedral, the city and people who lived and still live in this city, it's absolutely worthy... More

The walled city is an amazing place, especially if you've read any of the many histories or novels set there. One can easily imagine living within the city, being beseiged, being oppressed during the Albigensian inquisition. Few still live within the city itself; shops take up most of the space. Nevertheless, it's an extraordinary piece of history. We were fortunate... More
