Such a beautiful palace with lots to see. We opted for a guided tour, which gave us information we likely wouldn't have had

Parterre is an ornamental garden with paths between the beds. Water parterre is a terrace between the Chateau and the gardens. It has two huge rectangular ponds.
In 1674 Louis XIV ordered 24 statues to grace the terrace, they comprised the Four Seasons, the Four Continents, the Four Elements, the Four Humors of Man, the Four Poems and the Four Hours of the Day.
In 1685 the plans were changed and the statues were spread out in other gardens.

The two large rectangular pools reflect the sun's rays and light up the outside wall of the Hall of Mirrors. They are decorated with figures in bronze representing rivers and their tributaries, the Seine and the Marne, the Garonne and the Dordogne, the Loire and the Loiret and the Rhone and the Saône.

Walked through the garden before the palace tour and it was breath taking. The sculptures, the multiple fountains was fascinating. It would have been neat to be around during this time to see these fountains in all their glory. The fountains were not on but I bet they would look and sound neat during the day and night. It’s truly incredible what was built that long ago.

there are days when the fountains have a musical show but we were not there for that but still found them beautiful with the intricate design features and the hundreds of sculptures. one of the first things you see when you are leaving the Chateau and are heading to the gardens.

The Water Parterres relates directly to the two large pools in front of the Palace, with four bronze statues depicting rivers of France, nymphs and children. There are other parterres which form part of the gardens.

The exquisitely created fountains provide excellent background for selfies. Each ornately carved piece of the fountain tells its own story. The best part is to see each part of the fountain dancing in-tune with the music. I would suggest people to note the timing of the musical show and then visit the fountain.

The best and most relaxing place after the full tour of the outdoors to take selfies. Exquisitely sculpted tortoises sport the fountains all round the beautiful central statue.

Huge fountains wit gold statues that spit water out of their mouths.
These fountains are directly in the sunset view.

Pretty fountain with each of the pieces playing a part of the historical story representing the fountains intent.
