- BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, United Kingdom2,043 contributionsOld fashioned characterThis is the gateway to the South of France. If you come on the RER you will be disappointed as the station seems to be entirely underground with the platforms located in a number of halls. However get outside via the main entrance where there is a busy and unremarkable square. There are a number of restaurants around where you can sit in the morning sun. The most authentic part of the station is in close proximity to the Train Bleu restaurant and nearby is a vintage shopping arcade with a number of eating outlets. If you waiting there it is interesting to observe the vast number of high speed trains coming and going.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023

We needed assistance which was easy to get and my wife was wheelchaired to the train and given every help to board. Great service, Booked tickets on line so can't comment on that.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 January 2024
- Thomas VOakland, California17,523 contributionsBig and BusyMaybe the prettiest train station in town because of the lovely restaurant found here. Underground you will find a big mall with connections among transit options plus some shopping. This place can be very busy as it is the station that travelers use to go to the South.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 February 2024
- Traveler OWashington DC, District of Columbia1,216 contributionsStation in Eastern ParisLarge station in Eastern Paris on the right bank across the river from Gare d'Austerlitz and near Gare de Bercy. Getting here can be a pain as few metro lines pass through here. The station itself is usually busy, but not as chaotic as Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. Not too far to walk to Gare d'Austerlitz over the bridge/river, but don't do it in the rain. Car traffic here can be gridlocked at times, so best to avoid renting a car here or parking here - take the metro or a taxi instead.Visited April 2024Travelled on businessWritten 14 April 2024
- J EFredericksburg, Virginia11,415 contributionsTrain StationOne of several train stations in Paris. If you want to go to the South of France, this is the one you’d use. The staff on the platform were very helpful and spoke great English. They have signage all over, to help you find where you need to go. The train itself was decent, but rather cramped in second class. Overall, definitely a nice way to see the French countryside between Paris and Aix-en-provence!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2024
- Ramesh APhiladelphia, Pennsylvania245 contributionsGreat train stationOne of the few stations we visited dur8ng our visit to Paris. We reached here from Geneva. The station is great but not busy like montparnasse. The signs are well marked for shopping, food, taxis, and restrooms. The restrooms are maintained well. Short walk from the platform to catch your taxi.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 June 2024

Gare de Lyon was a most enjoyable station from which to depart on the SNCF/RENFE jointly operated TGV high speed train to Girona/Barcelona, Spain.
Unfortunately the two rail operators dislike each other to put it mildly so frequencies on this route are not what they should be.
The station is beautiful architecturally, and there are many delightful shops.
The booking office staff member was most helpful when I arranged onward reservations as part of our Eurailpass extensive travels.
We also visited the famous restaurant Le Train Bleu upstairs that had scaffolding around it due to station works, but that did not detract from the experience.
One needs to locate the 'hall' from which each train departs. Unfortunately SNCF only open the barrier gates for a train about 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure. As our TGV was conveying 500 passengers from Paris, this meant some fairly chaotic scenes as travellers jostled to have their ticket checked. It also meant a quick walk along a long platform if one was in the front TGV, as there were two coupled sets.
The Parisian RER semi-fast suburbans are quite some walk from the long distance trains, so don't plan a two minute connection.

Gare de Lyon is part of 6 big travelling terminal in Paris. Around 83 millions of people use the terminal in a year. It has an amazing French rococo architecture and French restaurants. The visit only worth the trip and it is FREE to go inside.
For info only: Several big and small hospitals surround the train station, including the University hospital.
Also, Paris Zoo is located just across the station/river Seine. Walking distance.

French railway stations are a nightmare. They only announce the platform for the train 15 mins before arrival and keep changing the departure halls(there are 3). Trains always run up to an hour late and that’s the good news. Public transport is very often in strike in France. Even Spain is more pleasant and efficient and way cheaper than France!!

An impressive building and especially the adjacent clock tower, which is very beautiful especially in the evening. There are many restaurants and shops in the station itself, and it is full of hotels. Since there is also a major subway stop here, it was always full of people

We used Gare de Lyon a couple of times. The building is certainly noteworthy architecturally. It is a big station. However, as is the case almost everywhere, people need to be very careful with their luggage and their personal possessions all the time. There are always shady characters around waiting for travellers to drop their guard and they rob them. Be alert!

I tried to book CitizenM Opera in Paris and didn't realize that I had selected Gare de Lyon. Within minutes, I realized my mistake. As it was a non-refundable reservation, I tried repeatedly to appeal to the hotel and the "middle-man". The hotel refused to accept my mistake. I wanted them to simply transfer the reservation for the same night to CitizenM Opera when I had stayed the previous week. They would not. Nor would they waive the non-refundable. I am now out close to $900 for the two rooms I booked.
FYI, I also went on to CDG and stayed at the Citizen M there before my flight departed. I am not sure I would use this organization again.

Transfeero is the worst taxi / private car service I have ever used. The driver dropped us off a 5 minute walk from our destination. The price wax double the cost of a taxi service. (I would have cancelled if I had not paid in advance.) Do NOT use this company. Just get a cab at Gare de Lyon.

Hi, I just want to know if the station is completely closed at or just check in and out are closed. I am reaching Station around 12 am and my next train is at 6:15 am. I don't want to book hotel, for few hours and I am low on budget.

I am trying to book a seat reservation because I am travelling from Paris to Switzerland. On the Eurail website, it’s asking for the “Issuer” and I can’t find it on my eurail pass/ticket.

There is an airport bus, it stops opposite the entrance of Gare de Lyon.
About RER - no idea, really,
But you can well look up the map?

City mapper works wonders in Paris. Its an app. All metro stations in Paris accept cards. Public transport should not be a problem to get to the Eiffel.

When we were there in June, I did not see any. It was hard to find anyone that appeared to be train station employees (other than a few security guards) until you got to a track that was boarding,
