This was my first visit since the museum was remodelled and, as both a devout museum-goer and a scholar of Asian and Southeast Asian art, I was surprised and disappointed at how the museum presented itself. Display cases were dusty both inside and on top;...More

I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful Asian art museum with a friend who has studied this genre. He gave me a perfect lesson as there are superb examples of the many features of art from the East. Incredible collection in a beautiful setting.

The higher up you go in the building, the less impressive it becomes. Southeast Asia on the ground floor is fantastic, because the items are mainly thefts from former French colonies (Cambodia, Vietnam). The statues on the first floor (Tibet, China) are quite beautiful. The...More

I have visited the Guimet several times and each time I find new and interesting things to see. Happily for me, this museum doesn't seem to attract big groups of tourists so it is easy to see the exhibits without the crowds. There is a...More

This museum is a little gem near the Eiffel Tower. Several wonderful displays of Asian art, objects, maps, textiles etc. arranged by country. I especially liked the Japanese displays on the basement level. There is a nice cafe/restaurant there and when I visited it was not...More

'Asian arts': is the remit supposed to encompass from the Urals to Philippines? Most of the collection are from Buddhist-influenced cultures. However, the syndrome of dispersion looms. What have Afghanistan, ancient Khmers, India and Japan have to do together in this relatively small place, is...More

The museum has sometimes good exhibtion but is unable to deal with it. The organisation is unprofessional and disinterested; the security rude. To be avoided unfortunately

The collections are impressive. The temporary exhibitions too. Sorry to have missed early photography of Myanmar but we were lucky to catch a very detailed account of the life of Emile Guimet, his voyage in America and Asia, the creation of the museum, and the...More

To my shame, I have to admit I didn't know about this museum. It was an extraordinary surprise. If you love oriental art, you should most definitely pay a visit. Highly recommended.

The museum is located close to Trocadero in the centre of Paris. There is a very nice collection of items from Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, India, China....) & a few pieces of contemporary art mixed with the antiquities. Overall very well arranged/good explanations. Also, there is...More

This is the neighbourhood of grand and impressive
Haussmann-designed apartments and buildings. National
museums overlook the Eiffel Tower and embassies fill
the avenues and streets. Locals head to the butcher,
florist, or bakery on their daily rounds amidst luxury
and splendour, all with a view over Paris and its most
famous tower. Snuggled in between the grand buildings
are small art galleries and homes of historical

We are not aware if talks about this are taking place, let alone if/which artefacts have been looted, instead of discovered, unearthed, restored and studied for the good of all. The French explorers (notably Mouhot, who... More
