This pretty little spot, tucked away behind the Basilica de Sacré Coeur, is probably missed by 99% of the tourist throngs who make their way up to the landmarks of Montmartre. And what is being missed is one of the best and prettiest public green spaces in Montmartre: Square Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet.
The little square was once called Park Turlure, after a former windmill on the site. It was renamed Square Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet in 2004, after the French entrepreneur and advertising magnate best known as the founder of Publicis Groupe. The square is not large, and is terraced.
So why visit? It provides some of the best (and perhaps most unique) views of the Basilica de Sacré-Coeur. After all, few people wander around the back of the basilica, preferring to stop and photograph the ecclesiastical building face on. Further, in the spring, summer and autumn, Square Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet is a picture of seasonal loveliness. In summer it is filled with blossoming wisteria, while in the autumn months, the autumnal yellows, golds and reds tumble over the old arbor frame, creating a canopy of autumnal loveliness. In all seasons the little park is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic, as well as a great place to stop and rest in the middle of your Montmartre walking discovery tour.
It’s not difficult to find. As you walk to the left side of the Basilica from its front facade, along Rue du Cardinal Guibert on your way to Place du Tertre, veer right (instead of turning left) along Rue du Chevalier de la Barre to the rear of the Basilica. You’ll see the little square directly ahead of you. It certainly is worth a little visit and a perfect spot away from the tourist fray to rest awhile and to be still.

Parc de la Turlure is a quiet park in the shadow of Sacre Coeur. It is at the rear and pleasantly devoid of tourists. There is a shady arbour with plenty of benches where you can have lunch. The is also a handy public toilet. This was once the site of one of the many windmills on Montmartre hill.

Walking around Montmartre, was so much, we found this lovely
garden (named after a French advertising magnate)
away from the madding crowds, to have a rest,
what we especialy liked was it had one Paris’s famous self cleaning (free), toilets.

It’s small, but it’s peaceful and beautiful. We visited on a Sunday and saw many locals playing with their little ones. Worth a rest stop after you’ve climbed to the Basilica.

This park is located right behind the Sacre Coeur. After seeing so many tourists hanging around at the front side of the church, here, at the back side of the church was totally quiet. You can sit on the benches and take a rest. By a nice weather people come for a picnic.

The square is behind the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. I found out this square by chance because i was looking for a rest room. In this square it's quite isolated in contrast with the people and tourists occupying the frontage and inside the beautiful church. But there were few people around in one of the shady portions. They were the ones who helped me then directing the restroom.
The area has a garden and the small amphitheater with some ornamental shrubs and few seats and a playground. The place is ideal for picnic or a short stop. One can also get the best perspective of the Basilica.

Hi, how do we get to Parc de le Turlure with public transport? And also, can anyone please tell me, is it possible to have a picnic in this park? Many thanks.
