- Shelana W4 contributionsTruly unique experience - highly recommend!Learning to bake croissants in Paris should be a bucket list item for all! Chef Stephane provided a fun and exciting learning experience that my son (12) and I will cherish forever. The location is clean, well-equipped, and the decor is gorgeous. The small class size created an inviting environment where we were all able to participate. Chef's attention to detail ensured that we had mouth watering treats that were baked to perfection. Highly recommend.Bonjour shelanaw, thank you for your unique review of your Croissants Class experience with Chef Stephane at Le Foodist. - Tina M2 contributionsHEAVENI don't even know where to begin. This class was so much fun, and I learned what a true eclair is. Stephen was so patient, explained everything and let us do the work ourselves. We were paired into teams of two, which was perfect. I enjoyed the class so much, I tried to get into another before I left Paris. Unfortunately, they were booked. I highly recommend you book this class now.Bonjour tinamM1894TU, thank you for your wonderful review of your Chocolate Eclairs class with your Chef Stephen at Le Foodist. - Alanna HGuelph, Canada15 contributionsThis class is worth it!We found the croissant making class to be enjoyable and informative. We learned about and got to work on each step of the process. Thanks to Stephane, we definitely feel confident in baking croissants and pain au chocolat at home. The atmosphere is lovely (all that old stone!) and the kitchens were well set up. Best part was eating them warm from the oven and taking extra home. Highly recommend this class!Bonjour 149alannah, thank you for your review of your Croissants making class with your Chef Stephane. I am delighted to know you now feel confident to baking them at home - and that you enjoyed our venue so much. But indeed the best part of any cooking, baking or pastry class is to taste your creations and enjoy the fruit of your labours. This is included in all our classes. - Jen SCalgary, Canada4 contributionsFun activity, expert instruction, inspirational settingI attended a macaron baking class at Le Foodist. I went solo and was put in a group with four other ladies. The maximum class size is eight, meaning that everyone gets a hands on experience with lots of direction and support from the instructor. I can't say enough about this class! We learned all the tips and tricks to successfully make this French delicacy, and the result was honestly one of the best macarons I've ever tasted. Excellent instructor who really knows her stuff, beautiful ambience, great company, and you go home with a full box of macarons to boot! Couldn't recommend it more. Great way to spend an afternoon in Paris!Bonjour Jenna, thank you for review of your Macarons making class at Le Foodist. I am delighted you enjoyed everything in your experience, from instruction to ambiance through the beautiful ambience. - Erin S4 contributionsCroissant Class at Le Foodist with StephanWe took the Croissant Class at Le Foodist with Stephan Jimenez. This class was by far my favorite activity we did while we were there. He spoke very good English and was very easy to follow along. We went downstairs to a cozy kitchen area. The "students" did most of the work with the measuring & assembly of the ingredients as well as rolling out the dough. We enjoyed tea & coffee while our croissants baked & the place smelled devine. Our family was with another couple and the small class size was perfect. He was able to answer all our questions. You also get to take home the croissants that you bake. He told us of some restaurants that were off the beaten path and made us a reservation at one of them! It was the best meal we had during our trip! I cannot recommend this class enough! Stephan is amazing!!!Bonjour erinsB7139WL, thank you for your amazing review of your Croissants class at Le Foodist with your Chef Stephan. I am glad you enjoyed the kitchen and flow of the class - and the tea & coffee while the croissants that you made were baking. Indeed after this class and most pastry classes people leave with boxes full of their creations. And I am glad you enjoyed the restaurant he booked for you - I think though that everybody reading this would have wanted to know which restaurant it was ... ;-) Thank you very much FredWritten 9 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 October 2023

- Eric S2 contributionsFantasticMy husband and I wanted a different experience while on vacation and to take home a skill we could duplicate. Chef Stephane was an excellent teacher - and no surprise as he teaches as well as other specialists within the pastry-making world - so he was the perfect guide. Our class yielded some great conversation, learnings in the baking world, and delicious and beautiful cream pulls and eclairs. We sat with tea/coffee to enjoy our makings at the end of class and left with a dinner reservation made by the Chef himself to THE best meal we had during our time in Paris, along with several other pastry shop recommendations. Such a great experience and I would absolutely recommend any of their sessions.Bonjour U7881MUerics, thank you for your fantastic review of your Chocolate Eclairs class at Le Foodist with your Chef Stephane. I am glad you found it a wonderful way to acquire new skills, as well as learning about the French food culture - in this case the world of professional pastry making. I am glad you enjoyed your teatime tasting at the end of the class - and the cherry on the cake ... indeed isn't wonderful when your Chef books you a table in one of his favorite restaurants as well? - Robert H1 contributionThe Class You Have WantedMy wife and I were in Paris for our 30th wedding anniversary. We have been to Paris a number of times but have not gone to a cooking class because we had not heard of a good one that had a lot hands-on experience. This one was excellent with hands-on; the instructor was very informative, funny, and so very attentive and kind. We made three different types of bread, sat down and got to eat what we made. There was a total of six people in our class; it was a highlight for our Paris trip. I would suggest this to anyone going to Paris looking for a bread making class…….Worth every penny. The added plus ………..this baking class was less expensive than others we had seen and had more hands-on experience, from start to finish. Thanks Le Foodist. You are the best!!!!Bonjour Robert, thank you very much for your excellent review of your bread class at Le Foodist. I am glad you enjoyed all aspects of the class and your Chef. My husband & I took the Croissant Class. We were the first to arrive and received a warm welcome from Fred. A few minutes later another couple arrived. Introductions were made, "where are you from" was the question most asked. As each new group member arrived "join the party" was a way to make everyone feel at ease and get to know one another while final preparations were being done for the class. We had a wonderful group of people - 6 in total; two husband & wife couples and two solo young women. The building is set up with two different kitchen areas (one upstairs & one downstairs) with dining tables upstairs and a separate dining room downstairs. Our Croissant Class was held downstairs in a charming kitchen space that we loved. There was a 4-course cooking class being held in the upstairs kitchen. There was a Market/Wine Pairing Class that came in at some point and used the downstairs dining area. It was so well organized and each class had their own space to work.
Amanda was our Chef for the class and I cannot say enough good things about her! She explained exactly each process that we were doing, encouraged questions and it was all totally hands on work. We did it all. She made it fun, quizzed us on measurements as a little game and patiently walked us through each step. She was personable, professional and encouraging. The group chatted with each other and complimented each others endeavors to make Boulangerie worthy croissants. We made two types of croissants, Pain au chocolat and traditional croissants. While they were baking Amanda made us tea and coffee and brought us upstairs to relax. The final result was amazing! They looked so professional and tasted just as good as any we've had since arriving in Paris. The best part - we were all given boxes to pack up our goodies and take home with us.
I would highly recommend Le Foodist to anyone looking to immerse themselves in a local cooking experience. We were so fortunate to have such a fantastic group as well as a wonderful instructor. They have so many different classes to choose from. I was torn between the pastry class and croissant class but ultimately felt the croissant class would be more complex and involved. Merci, Amanda, for a wonderful experience. It made our trip to Paris one of our favorite highlights.

merci beaucoup for your magnifique review of your Croissants making class at Le Foodist with your Chef Amanda. It was a pleasure to read how much your enjoyed all the moments of your experience with us. And thank you as well for indicating we have indeed many classes to choose from: from Market Visit Cooking through Bread, Macarons, Eclairs - but also Food Tours and Wine Tastings. And even one week Cooking Holidays in the Loire Valley and Provence.
So merci again, and we are delighted this was a contribution to making your trip to Paris one of your favorite highlights.

We booked the French bread (baguette, ciappata and brioche) class. We were happy the other 2 couples didn't arrive so we were only 4 out of 8 participants. And that made it intimate, fun and very hands on! I went with my 12 yr old daughter which is the limit age, I think a 10 year old could go as well, but it was fun anyway.
We hope we can replicate it at home, the results were amazing, the Chef was very nice, and made us work a lot, which is what I liked: to learn while doing, and not just watching. I think a group of 6 max is best, 8 people would've made it more difficult to enjoy.
Merci pour tout :)

Visited LeFoodist in September 2023 while in Paris for our honeymoon. Croissant Baking Class with Stephane was an amazing experience. Shared the class with 2 other duos. Learned so much about the art of pastry making and loved hearing stories about Stephane’s journey to becoming a pastry chef in Paris. Was provided with an apron upon arrival and enjoyed both plain and chocolate croissants with coffee/tea at the end of class. The one downfall is that each duo is not making their own dough and pastries start to finish - we were grouped together with others to make each batch. Understandably, but unfortunately - the dough you use to bake with is from the class the day prior (due to lengthly process of making dough, etc) and the dough you make is for the following day. Recipes are shared with you email email after completing class. So much fun! It was honestly one of the highlights during of our time in Paris.

Bonjour rubnitzk,
thank you for your amazing review of your Croissants Making Class with your Chef Stephane at Le Foodist.
I am glad you enjoyed learning the process of making plaing and chocolate croissants from scratch. But indeed split in two parallel processes. It would take up to 6 hours to make croissants from start to finish.
So we let people 'finish' making croissant first; while in parallel they 'start' making their dough. Which is used by the next group. We have found over the years that this works quite well though; and I am glad you appreciated it.
Thank you for indicating this was one of the highlights of your trip!
Cheers

This time we took their bread class: Baguette, Brioche, and Ciabatta. We have taken their Croissant class (2017) and their Macaron class (2019, with the kids) in the past. I think the fact we go back says a lot.
They are consummate professionals teaching at method, and why. The most recent (French Breads in Paris) was another excellent class. Here we started with baguette, very basic and yet very demanding / complex in preparation / baking. We also learned why a true (minimal ingredient) baguette is only in it's best tasting form the day (indeed, only for a few hours after) it is prepared. We also made a lovely buttery brioche and an olive oil ciabatta under the direction of an excellent teacher. We learned how and why to fold in the dough while the baker monitored and corrected politely, demonstrating again up close to try and ensure success for all.
This is part and parcel with the other classes we have had from them, and we were glad to see they had managed to survived the current calamities that have sunk so many tourist oriented businesses. My wife and I can happily recommend them as they have an excellent staff and facility.
Thank you again, and when we're in Paris hopefully we have the time try something else new!

Bonjour Jesse,
indeed we survived the current calamities and we were very happy to see you back at Le Foodist. thank you for coming back to us and writing this great review. I am glad you enjoy the way we instruct classes, focusing not only the what but also the why. We believe it makes people more likely to remember what they learnt and to manage the unavoidable variability people run into once back home.
Many thanks for your recommendation, and we will look forward to welcoming you back next time you are in Paris!

My wife and I took two classes at Le Foodist and both classes far exceeded our expectations. For our Croissants class our instructor was Fanny. Fanny is amazing! She took us through the complete process for making the croissants. She has made it possible for novices like us to make them when we return home. Thank you, Fanny!
We also took a Macaron class with Florence. The class is fantastic and a lot of fun! She patiently helped us through each step and the end result was delicious and beautiful. Thank you, Florence!
We highly recommend Le Foodist if you are visiting Paris and want to learn how to make these tasty French treats!!!

2 couples, we wanted to do something different on this trip to Paris. And the Latin Quarter food tour was a huge winner! Emily was our gastronomic guide, she was both incredibly knowledgeable (away from doing tours, she writes about and has a degree in the history of food), and incredibly upbeat and super friendly. We spend a couple of hours walking around the Latin Quarter, stopping here or there to both eat and buy parts for the lunch. The history of the French Baguette really stood out (who knew there used to be price caps!). Then back to the Foodist HQ for a delicious and classic 4 course French lunch with lots of wine. This was a huge winner, I'll be recommending to many friends!

My wife and I took the Paris Baguettes and Brioche: French Bread Baking Class with Frederic and it was a great experience. There were a total of 8 people in the class which was a perfect size. Frederic was highly entertaining and knowledgeable. We are both experienced bakers and still learned a lot in the class. The baking area was comfortable and well organized. We were amazed that in the time allotted for the class we baked two types of baguette, small and large, along with brioche loaves and ciabatta rolls. The tasting of the breads after was also a great time as we got to compare and contrast and to discuss baking with the other class participants as well as to eat the wonderful breads. I would recommend the class to anyone who is interested in baking no matter their skill level from novice to experienced. Come ready to work and learn and you will have fun. Thanks again Frederic for a great class and experience!

Bonjour Randy,
thank you for your great review of your French Bread experience with your Chef Frederic at Le Foodist. I am happy to read that as experienced bakers you still learned a lot in the class - and that you enjoyed the area where you baked.
And thank you for sharing about the tatsing moment at the end of the class - which is effectively a lunch when you can taste all your creations with jam, butter, cheese and vegetarian pâté (as well as our own 'secret' French toast for dessert). This is indeed a perfect time to compare, share and discuss with other participants, whatever their skill level.
Thank you very much

My 23 year old twins wanted to take a hands-on French dessert making class for their birthdays while in Paris. We selected LeFoodist and had the best time! The underground cooking space was quaint and perfect. The equipment was all top notch. Anne, our instructor, was and absolute gem - prepared numerous basic aspects for our group of 8 people in advance to make it easy to complete everything in 3 hours - crepes Suzette, creme brûlée, financier cookies and chocolate soufflé! She also offered great baking tips even for those that are experienced. We sat to eat it with dessert wine, coffee or tea. I highly recommend this experience for anyone - from beginners to intermediate chefs. You will absolutely have a fantastic time!

Bonjour Jeannie,
thank you for your detailed review of your French Dessert class with your Chef Anne at Le Foodist. And merci for mentionning the sit-down tasting with indeed coffee, tea and wine after the class.

You are the best!!!!

Bonjour Robert,
thank you very much for your excellent review of your bread class at Le Foodist. I am glad you enjoyed all aspects of the class and your Chef.
But I am thrilled you highlighted that "this baking class was less expensive than others we had seen and had more hands-on experience, from start to finish." I hope everybody else realizes this and joins us, thanks to you!

Can the croissant baking class be attended with a 9 year old?
Written 29 December 2019
Hello, I believe you sent this question directly, but as per our terms and conditions, in our public classes we can only welcome children 12 years and above - and each of them needs to be accompanied by a participating adult.
Cheers

Can a 14 and 16 year old take a macaron-making class without an accompanying adult? They are mature, well behaved, interested and capable.

The reason I say this is that even if the cream puffs don’t come out pretty, they are still yummy... not so much with macarons. We loved working with four different fillings too.

What is the difference between the class Macarons in Paris and Advanced Macarons in Paris, other than the extra hour? What is included in the extra hour?
Written 28 June 2019
I did not do either class, so I can’t speak to this question. But I will say, that when I asked the company questions regarding the classes I did take, they were very helpful. I suggest asking them for a more definitive description of both classes.
In any case, I think you will enjoy either class.

I will be in Paris for a four day visit with my 12 year old daughter. Given our limited time in Paris, is it a good idea to do the macaron class or should we save it for a future (longer) visit?

I think your daughter would thoroughly enjoy the class
I would do it now & don’t wait !

Can my 10 yr old daughter and 13 yr old son also take the class with my husband and me? Thanks!
Written 15 April 2019
I just saw this question, it’s a month later, I apologize. The answer is yes, as long as your children are well-behaved and good at attention to detail as the class is 3 hours long and you all will be “working” the whole time. It is fun! But it def is for foodie lovers.... our two girls truly enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish. They are 12&14 years old. Hope this helps!

What are the requirements for dress? Are shorts allowed? Are closed-toed shoes required?

Hi. Casual, comfortable clothes. I think closed shoes would be best because of the equipment used but I don remember if it was required.

Do you have an age minimum? I have an eight year old I would like to bring with me to participate.
Written 10 March 2018
Bonjour Ayisha,
I believe we have now exchanged via email; but as per our terms and conditions our minimum age is actually 12 years old.
Thank you
Fred

I would like to book a class for October when is my credit card charged?? When I register or just before the class?
Written 11 February 2018
Bonjour Denise F,
actually your credit card is charged at the time of booking. So if that is a concern, I would suggest you book closer to your class date (provided you have flexibility in your schedule in case the class you wanted has filled-up of course).
I hope this helps
