This was the first area I ended up at when I started exploring Paris. It is a nice quiet square (well technically it’s triangular, but whatever…) especially when compared to the hustle and bustle of the rest of Île de la Cité. There are a number of nice looking cafes in the area and it would be an ideal place... More

It was nice while passing by Pont Neuf and had good experience. I love Paris and it was more than enough that it was another place to be at

The square at the western end of the Ile de la Cite was the second project for building the public squares in the city (after the Place des Vosges) started by Henry IV in 1607. The square has a triangular shape and it is a peaceful oasis in the center of the city, nice for having a break under the... More

The Place Dauphine is my favourite square in Paris. It is small, beautiful and simple - not full of tourists and with just he right mix of trees, grass, sand, restaurants & cafes. Perfect. I used to live 3 minutes away and spent many a memorable minute here. I still come back to walk through and sit in the square... More

A nice little place to sit and rest for a while in the middle of sightseeing. Of course, it'll always be connected with commissaire Maigret for those who have read the books.

Paris is blessed with numerous small parks and plazas and this is one of the nicest. Unusual in that's it's triangular in shape but with pleasing architecture and a number of attractive eating places. Hard to believe it's on Ile de la Cite - the day we were there there was hardly any tourists, unlike the rest of the generally... More

I had read about how peaceful this area of Île de la Cité is and thought it would be nice to visit. We had originally thought we might dine at one of the restaurants that surround the plaza; however, the timing didn’t come together. Restaurants were closed at the times we were planning to be there. We had other things... More

Pleasant French Restaurant offering traditional breakfast and meals in nice ambience. Very helpful waitress explains what goes in each dish though we struggle to understand. Meals are deliciously prepared and still affordable. We preferred the outdoor seats to enjoy the Parisian atmosphere.

This is a real Parisian place where you get a feeling of how Paris is with hundreds of turists is around you. Eventhough is so close to Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter you get a sence of Parisian life. I have never had a bad meal here eventhough I have tried most of the places. I adore this place... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
