- Boris SBratislava Region, Slovakia1 contributionFoot-friendly but super enriching experience!Fantastic visit - didn't hope I will get-in in such a short time. Queues are nice and short in december, even in Friday. Exhibition 100% - very well curated. Can recommend BEFORE Louvre which is super close, but after Louvre you won't be able to walk a meter more.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 3 December 2022
- K wilsonEdinburgh, United Kingdom47 contributionsMy favourite Paris galleryThis is always my favourite art spot in Paris. Monet's water lilies do not disappoint both in terms of beauty and scale, in each room you will be surrounded by a 360 of Monet. The downstairs also hosts a fantastic collection. We arrived for opening and started upstairs (at the water lilies) to avoid the crowds and even by the time we were heading downstair there were far more people about.Visited November 2022Written 6 December 2022
- WanderingOttersonsDenver, Colorado1,353 contributionsAmazing - my favorite art gallery everI would come here just for the Monet rooms! As I am not a huge art fan (except for Monet), I did not appreciate some of the other portions of the museum as much but there is certainly a lot to see. It is a small museum, especially compared to the Louvre, but still well worth the visit. There are several works each from Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso and Renoir among several others and some temporary exhibits. The highlight of course is the Monet rooms which are completely unreal. The rooms and lighting were designed in collaboration with Monet so that the large pieces he painted would be displayed exactly as he wished. Huge panels in eight different pieces – four per large elliptical room. In total about 100m (300ft) in length of these huge pieces. Monet had a special studio built in his house just to be able to create them. This is a truly special experience to see these amazing works.Visited October 2022Written 7 December 2022
- Benni JCologne, Germany26 contributionsThe collection is fantastic - the millions of Instagramers are a horrorToo many people in the Gallery even they sell ticket with entrance-time. The Instagramers are totally annoying because they constantly stand in front of the paintings and pose!!! for minutes!!! The Museum needs a policy on that and fast.... the exhibition is amazingVisited December 2022Written 31 December 2022
- 642familyof5Sydney, Australia313 contributionsFamily friendly - really manageable.Fantastic gallery with lots to see and love. Feels really manageable for families with young kids v D’Orsay & Louvre - absolutely worth booking ahead. After 1hr of “good behaviour” you are right next to the gardens for a run around! The Water Lilly series alone is worth the visit.Visited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 January 2023
- Jane F8 contributionsGreat variety of French artistsI love the Orangerie because it's not as overwhelming as some of the bigger museums. We were there for an hour and went through the art on both floors. We used audio guides which we enjoyed. I'm sure you could stay longer but we still felt like we got a taste of many different artists. The water lilies are displayed beautifully. You almost feel like you are in Monet's garden.Visited January 2023Written 16 January 2023
- maria vBucharest, Romania8 contributionsMust see in ParisJust between Place de la Concorde and Jardin Tuileries this small museum hold an astonishing collection of Monet Nymphéas. It's maybe the best organized museum I've been to in Paris in terms of orientation ensuring an amazing experience. Downstairs they have another exhibitions. Book online to not stay in the rain like me for 40min...but it was worth it.Visited January 2023Written 17 January 2023
- Thomas VOakland, California16,367 contributionsNice Special ShowWe waited a bit in line to get into a special show at this old part of the Louvre complex. Now it's a museum with a small permanent collection (Monet's lilies) but also has a good space for temporary expos. Good experience.Visited July 2022Written 23 January 2023
- peter bischoffYogyakarta Region, Indonesia41 contributionsSmall museum, big artGreat museum of classic modernist masterpieces. Pretty small museum with great pieces. I chose this museum too see some classic masterpieces i just knew from books. I really loved too see the paintings of Soutine. Some small pieces of Matisse were a real surprise, his best i saw so far. And for Monet lovers there’s the waterlilies.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 January 2023
- Jay BFairhope, Alabama1,023 contributionsAmazing Art In a Small, Convenient SpaceParis has many great museums, but this place is quite special. The museum footprint is small compared to others like the Louvre and Orsay, but the quality is simply outstanding. You will find the famous Monet masterpieces for sure, but also works from other masters including Rousseau, Utrillo, Derain, Matisse, Cezanne, Renoir, and Picasso. The quality in such a small space is simply incredible. As a bonus, the museum is located adjacent to the famous and beautiful Tuileries Gardens in the heart of Paris. They offer a nice gift shop and snack bar for your convenience. Be sure and include this wonderful museum in your Paris itinerary. NOTE: Online reservations for a timed entry are highly recommended, especially during peak periods.Visited October 2022Written 1 February 2023

We loved the Monet Water Lilies, of course, but the hit for us was seeing so many beautiful paintings by Utrillo and Modigliani (the special exhibition when we were there). The rooms are perfectly designed with the paintings of usually and sometimes two master impressionists. So you can enjoy the work in comparison with other pieces by the artist. Superb collection, excellent curated. And the interior design of the museum is world-class: so easy to find your way through the rooms. Perfect museum experience.

The Water Lillies is what you're here for and the 4 big ones here do not disappoint. They are staged in large viewing rooms that should allow you to see everything.
This is a popular sight so we came at opening with our Paris Pass in hand as well as a reservation to avoid hassle. I would recommend taking the time to get a reservation on their website if you can, the non-reservation line is long and it could take some time to get in unless you arrive early.

When you stand in the middle of both halls of the Orangerie Museum to examine the paintings inspired by the water lilies in the garden of Monet's House, you have the chance to observe the 360-degree panoramic view of the garden with Monet's art. A truly fascinating place.

The museum is in beautiful surroundings. The main attraction is the Water lilies which are nicely displayed. The Modigliani exhibition is worth, too.
Please do book a time slot online to avoid standing in a long queue. Worth booking well in advance as slots sell out.

11/11/23 Had a wonderful visit. While not the largest museums, we definitely enjoyed the exhibits which include Monet, Utrillo, Modigliani, Renoir and other items of collector Paul Guillaume. We did not have tickets and had to wait. However it was a cool dry day and the wait wasn’t more than about 15 min on a Saturday morning around 10:30am. People in front of us may have been there quite awhile longer as a few of them left and it was just minutes later that several of us in line were allowed in to by tickets, which were only 11 Euro each. Many museums including this one do require security screening but this only took a couple of minutes.

Way too many people to enjoy the paintings. Monet's upstairs installation is meant to be enjoyed as a meditative space, but it was noisy and overcrowded, even though we tried going first thing in the morning. Maybe they should walk around with "quiet" signs or limit the number of people. So crowded, not even worth seeing the impressionist paintings.

Not crowded, beautiful displays of Monet's paintings. The atmosphere really enhances the experience. Not as overwhelming as Musee' d'Orsay and the architecture does not compete with the art. Would visit again.

To see Monet's gigantic Water Lilies in all their splendor was truly something. The entire museum was full of important art and works by famous painters, but for us, it was all about the huge paintings. We had no idea they were so big, so beautiful, so detailed, and so mesmerizing. What a glorious way to spend a Sunday morning in Paris! We had tickets, but there was no line and we walked right in. The audio guide was thorough and helped bring the art to life for us.

I don’t know how or why we missed visiting this on our previous visits to Paris. But I am glad that we finally made it to Orangerie museum.
This museum was designed especially for the large scale water lilies painted by Monet and hence those 8 HUGE paintings are the prime attraction
The rooms transport you to another world - I just wish people would enjoy the paintings in silence as instructed :/
There are other small rooms for art work by some other famous artists as well
Since this is a small museum, one must book an entry slot.

When are tickets released? I’m trying to reserve tickets in advance and am 60-days out. Most other sites allow pre bookings but l’Orangerie seems to only allow bookings 30-days out. Am I missing something?

Truthfully, we lucked out on our morning walk and went right in without tickets.
I am trying to make reservations on your website but the "your selection" box does not work so I'm stuck?

Hi, is the Combination Ticket to d’Orsay and l’Orangerie still being sold? Does it Include an easy access line? If not, can I buy that separately or in another package? Thank you.

As of two weeks ago there were very few tourists in Paris. I don’t know about the combo ticket. You do need to reserve online for the Orangerie. There was less than a 10-minute wait to enter the Orsay. Excellent time to experience Paris.

Does the Monday morning English language tour of the Water Lilies series require advanced booking?

Sitges, Spain2,015 contributions
Hi there, actually, you can book your tour 15 mins before at the register or book it online. Sorry, for some reason Tripadvisor does not let me copy the site where you can book. but follow these steps:
1. on the landing page, go to the right and choose the (fourth, top to bottom) orange circle that says "diary"
2. Scroll down to the Monday you want to book, if it is next week, then it must be Monday Feb 17th at 9:45 am
3. Click on the blue title "English guided tour: The Nymphéas [Water Lilies], Claude Monet"
4. on the right column, at the bottom click on booking and follow the steps to book your tour.
Have a great time, it is an amazing museum!

Are the paintings replications or originals? This sounds like such a stupid question, but I went today and they had Seurat's Un dimanche après-midi à la Grande Jatte on display, but I thought that was housed at the Art Institute of Chicago. I studied the description and didn't see "replica." I'm so confused. Did I see the real thing?
Ekir

I found my answer. I learned that master artists often did "Etudes" or "Studies" before or while working on their masterpieces to try out or perfect a technique-rather like a rough draft or brainstorming session for a piece of writing. The Seurat at L'Orangerie that I asked about is an etude for Un dimanche après-midi à l'île de la Grande Jatte, which is the masterwork hanging in the Art Institute of Chicago.
Must I use combo tickets on same day.?

No. L'Orangerie is a completely different experience from the D'Orsay. If the Impressionists and Post-impressionists are your main interest, head for the top (5th) floor of the D'Orsay--before you get tired out!
